Strategy News!

by | 7/31/2007 1:29 AM

Well, the new-look Strategy Section is finished at last and we have a new article to open it with!

In this tutorial I will be demonstrating the Blitzkrieg strategy for how to fight a many-front war. Simply stated, the strategy is to gain the ability to make quick decisive strikes at the enemy and take them down one by one, like the divide and conquer maxim. It was invented by Nazi Germany and proved to be decisive in the war against France, Britain, and Russia. It was also used by Israel in the six day war against Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. I thought the circumstances of these two wars best represented the one of the Seleucid Empire so I decided I would base my campaign on that tactic which has proved itself to be extremely powerful.

ScipioMaximus gives a strategy to get off to a good start in the campaign as the Seleucids. It's clear and well-explained, so time to clean the blood off that sword and get campaigning again!

We had a visit from Teleklos Archy of the Europa Barbarorum team to give us a preview of their work so far which you can read all about here. There's a peak at the map, maptextures, some information about natural disasters and an in-depth look at the Pahlava (Parthian) faction.

They also have a mechanism for helping cities at the edge of the map with trade. Read on:
Did you ever get irritated because your provinces on the edge of the map were not helping you financially enough? The map only goes so far and even if there was light, moderate, or heavy trade going on off the edge of the map there is not much you can do about it, right? Well, we now have indestructible buildings in certain provinces on the map's edge that will help those provinces when it comes to trade. Provinces in India are most affected, but also those on the northeast corner of the map and on the east and west coasts of Africa.

The Fourth Age: Total War - The New Shadow Released!

by | 7/23/2007 5:31 AM

The third instalment in the mod The Fourth Age: Total War series has been released. Click here for more details.

The Fourth Age: Total War - The New Shadow
One of the main goals of FATW has been to faithfully portray the lands and inhabitants of Middle-earth in the Fourth Age, and immerse the player in the world that Tolkien created. We hope and believe that we have achieved that goal. "The New Shadow" is a provincial campaign taking place on a map that is roughly half that of the full map of Middle-earth. Players can choose between six factions: The Reunited Kingdom, The Kingdom of Rohan, The Empire of Harad, The Chiefdom of Rhûn, The Kingdom of Adûnabâr, and The Chiefdom of Dunland. In addition there are three new factions playable in custom battles: The Kingdom of the Elves, The Kingdom of the Dwarves, and The Kingdom of Dale. You will be treated to a whole host of new features including a new alignment, over 50 new units (more Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, & Trolls), a complete overhaul of the unit & faction balance systems, new animations, new traits and ancillaries, new music, and more.

It is the 238th Year of the Fourth Age of the Sun, and over 200 years have passed since the Return of the King, and the downfall of the Dark Lord. The Reunited Kingdom is beset on all sides by foes, and now even her own people are rebelling. The new Kingdom of Adûnabâr has seized Mordor and all its lands to the East of the Anduin. Their alliance with Rohan is faltering, as the Rohirrim are in open war with the Dunlendings. To the East the hordes of the Easterlings are once again moving, and the Haradrim are mustering their forces for yet another invasion. And as if that was not enough, rumours of a dark cult have been spreading through the lands of Gondor...
