Poland: Hard on High Middle Age

This campaign is an excellent examples of why I still play MTW more than the other games.

The first few turns I built up two small field forces, one under my king contained three units of Polish retainers, another under a Prince had some archers and melee foot.

I took Volhylla and Pomeria, then from Volhylla (pardon the spelling, tis wrong.) I attacked Lithuania, the enemy withdrew, but the province was unhappy. This started a series of building troops which would bring me to the brink of no more florins. I tried to conquer Prussia to re-stimulate my economy, it failed. I withdrew my now rather large field army from Poland, my king died the same turn.

I now had one field army in Prussia, and in every other province simply some garrisons, the Russians took Lithuania, I wanted, they were my allies.

I could not build more troops due to the equilibrium that had developed in my economy, which left me with very little to spend.

The Golden Horde emerged, I launch my attack, under a Prince with three command stars, I drive the enemy back.

The next turn they counter-attack, I set up my army expecting them to come from one direction, instead, their entire army is basically lined against my right flank, the weakest flank on my line. they charge, sending my men scattering, chain rout develops, I lose over three fourths of my 1200 man army.

My King, a weak man with no command, is now beset by disloyal generals, the Russians had destroyed my one field army, and though the Mongols had reached Kiev, the Russians had me pinned.

Launching an attack from Moldavia, the only province they had on my Southern Borders that could attack me, the Russians capture Poland. Their King and a large force then take Prussia, Pomeria suffers a rebellion, and Silesia falls to a Polish attack. Using my king and a small force, I try to retake Poland, I fail. Next turn, my king is besieged in Volhylla: Game Over.

"It's not true. Some have great stories, pretty stories that take place at lakes with boats and friends and noodle salad. Just no one in this car. But, a lot of people, that's their story. Good times, noodle salad. What makes it so hard is not that you had it bad, but that you're that pissed that so many others had it good." Jack Nicholson
