I never use auto resolve because I like battles.

If I feel like losing my best general and my 19 units of 3 gold chevron Urban Cohorts, then I auto resolve.

Video cards have absolutely nil to do with loading time, and 128MB is the standard.

I think that the best of the game are the battles

Early in campaign, i find you need to manually fight everything, since every unit counts so much. Later, I use autoresolve if its a repetive battle and particularly with a good general - the autoresolve seems to give quite a lot of weight to that. Past the 'tipping point' of a campaign, I probably auto-resolve 95% of battles, only manually fighting if I have some new unit, or a particularly key battle or siege. You can only rout so many stacks of hastari/principes/equites/wardogs before it gets stale.
