I'm playing as Scipii and have conquered all of Sicily, Spain, Mallorca, Crete and Africa including the three "Egyptian" cities on the Nile.
I note that there are three bridges across the Nile, all of whom are close to those cities. I would be grateful if someone could answer the following:
1) Can the bridges be crossed by an enemy if I hold the cities? I.e., do I have to defend both the cities and the bridges or just the cities to stop someone crossing the Nile?
2) Can the Nile cities be besieged from across (I.e. the eastern shore) of the Nile?
Thanks for your comments!

Additional information you may find useful: If you put a unit of Peasants on the bridge, with a Diplomat in the army with them, then no enemy agents can cross the bridges. Spies and Assassins can't cohabit a square with an army and Diplomats can't bribe a town or armt that has a Diplomat with it.

Enemy diplomats cannot bribe armies that are accompanied by a diplomat? If that is really true, why am I the last to know!?

Both you and the AI can bribe armies with diplomats, as well as lone diplomats. The price is far higher though.

At the bridge closest to Alexandria it is possible for an army to stand on the bridge while besieging the city (maybe this is true for the other cities as well?). The question was if it is possible to siege the cities from the left side of the Nile, this can't be done but from the bridge itself well thats another case.

I believe it goes like this: you cannot bribe a diplomat of five or higher influnence, nor can you bribe an army conatining a general of five or higher influence.

No. Last week I bribed a Diplomat with 10 influence for 8900 denarii.

Really? Whenever I try to negotiate with any high-influence character, the ability to bribe never appears for me. Are you sure about that 10-star diplomat? Forgive me if I'm doubtful about that case.

I have the 1.3 patch, and the only things I cannot bribe are faction leaders, faction heirs, or capital cities.

Those are the only things you never could bribe to begin with.

Simple answer is that the diplomat your using sucks. A crap diplomat can't bribe a good one. If you try and bribe a 6 influence guy (diplomat or general) with a 1 influence diplomat the bribe option may not even come up. Also if the family member has a lot of % increase to bribe traits/retinue members you don't get a bribe option. Thirdly if you can't afford the bribe the option doesn't show up either. For example if you only have 50000 denarii in you treasurery and it will take 60000 to bribe a person/place you don't get the option half the time.

I play tha Carthage campaign and I conquered Rome Tarentum Croton and Capua but the senate bought the 3 of the 4 cities in just one turn (it seems that Julii and Brutii gave all their money to SPQR) I lost my army but the war still went on until I realised that I was losing my cities all the time by bloody diplomats and the SPQR finance just would't go down!! so:
1)If I have multiple diplomats in a city would it be more difficult to bribe? 2)How do I increase an assasins skill really quick to take off those diplomats? 3)Why the SPQR is not losing any money? It holds one city that has -900 income and it buys cities all the time. Moreover the other roman factions' finance is zero and the Skipii just does not exist. (Plus every time I enter a roman city I exterminate the populance so that when SPQR won't have tax income and I blocade all roman ports!!!)
