Eh, yes they are shown as MY protectorate in the diplomacy tab. But how does that correlate to the loss of money?

Just reload the game from the last save before u did the diplomatic action and destroy the Numideans instead. Then the Senate will cancel the current mission and say something like "the current mission is irrelivant as they are destroyed". I lost money like in the same way...

Well I know that certain senate missions if you fail you get your finances investigated and lose alot of money in compensation so maybe that happened to Il Padrino. As to Tribun I have no idea how the money was lost. I didn't think taking on a protectorate made you lose money.

40 provinces and ure still doing senate missions? I've just conquered Rome and I only had around 29 provinces. I could still raise 12 full armies to conquer Italia, Gaul and Greece.
