I'm regrouping & rearranging in Spain around my faction leader. He'll soon hit Narbo Martius (& maybe another f-m in Spain will hit Lemonum simultaneously).
My quite good commander/manager faction heir is regrouping in Arretium waiting for another elephant, some longshields, & my first 3 sacred bands to get here from Carthage. When they arrive, I should be able to take Rome in a field battle. Rome has their f-l, f-h, a couple principe, & a hastati in the city. As usual, they have a full stack with 4 f-m's, a bunch of hastati, a couple each equites & velites, & an archer just outside of town. I figure if I lay seige to Rome, the outside army will hit me on the turn & we do it in the field rather than on & within the walls.
The rest of the Julii at Segesta & Mediolanium should be easy, as should be Patavium (still Gauls).
Here's the whole point of this post - finally. I don't mind ammassing big army to fight big battle for a large city, like Rome.
BUT...
The Brutii got across the Adriatic before I took their starting cities. They had Apollonia & Salona & a big army starting to march into Macedonia. When I took Apollonia, they regrouped around Salona, so now they have almost exactly the same manpower setup there as Rome has. Like I said, Rome is a prize worth fighting a major battle for - a well developed large city. Salona, OTOH, is a tiny settlement of 412 people trying to support huge army to the tune of -3100 denarii/turn! It is totally not going anywhere.
Take it or leave it?
