Well, I've been playing SPQR on rome total war. I just got the Marius Reforms, so I got a full stack and started to attack Gaul. Well I got into a "big" battle with them, they had about 1500, and I had about 1100. I new I was going to win because my troops are better. 6 units of cavalry, 4 onagers and 4 archer units. (the rest were early legionaary cohorts.). Well, first my Onagers opened up on them, and then my archers. but what I noticed was, all of my arrow were hitting the enemy warbands, but I also noticed, I was losing archers! I have no clue why, I lost 140 archers, when they didnt even fight any warband in hand to hand. I friendly fire possible, even if there in the same unit? PLEASE HELP!

140 is weird, but yes friendly fire happens a lot. If you look closely, you can sometimes see one of your archers plunk another archer of another unit right in the back of the head. It helps to spread them out and put them in loose formation.

Yeah, a loose formation for archers always works better (when you can do it). Also if they're on a hill shooting down in tight formation, as lmao said can cause some friendly fire.

Did you have your onagers on fire ammo? they probably hit some of your archers.

Yeah, fire ammo is pretty inaccurate and can ofte nwipe out alot of your own units.

I always get annoyed when my onagers hit my own units (especially units like Urban Cohort ). So what I do now is to switch to extinguished flame when the enemy gets close.

It could also be that the Gauls had some missile units of their own and were conducting counter-archer fire on you.
