Hi all,
I've recently started an Egyptian campaign, on Medium/Medium difficulty. I must say, the finances of the cities of the Middle East are incredible, but despite that advantage my cities still haven't developed to a size that will allow me to build high grade Egyptian units. But the thing is - are the Nubian spearmen the best low cost unit in the game? They always seem to hold the line for me in battles (as long as they are in phalanx formation-if not, they'll crack, I know!), even against hardcore enemy units, sure they lose a lot of men but they hold firm and they just don't seem to break, which is more than I can say for the mercenary spearmen you can hire in the middle east, the Eastern Infantry, who run at the first sign of trouble. Sure, it's relative to difficulty etc, but what are your experiences with the best 'cheap' units?

I've found Nubian spearmen pretty useful, but they are intimidated by cavalry and archers. Nile spearmen, yes, are a great unit, but once exposed they route pretty quick.
