Chariots are probably better because of the early use true, but I reckon elephants are better at breaking formations repeatedly in a battle and not dying.

yeah, thats what i was thinking. i follow my scythed chariots with either companions or capadocians. Also, alephants cant seem to kill cavalry as well.

I meant basic lvl 1 elephants, just 1 rider and the elephant, not war elephants.

Chariots are stopped by heavy infantry, elephants will go right through a sinlge unit of infantry (not pikes!), but chariots murder regular cavalry. Elephants are also hard to maintain outside your native lands so to say; they can't be retrained everywhere.

As long as you keep your Eles away from javelin, fire arrows and the front of pikemen, they'll break the enemy and turn them into a mob. They also slaughter scythed chariots with ease.
