Is there some keyboard button which makes a selcted unit march straight ahead?
I always try to march at the enemy but my formation disintegrates at unusual angles when ordering my troops to march beyond the enemy.
Does anyone know the command for your troops to march directly ahead? Is there one? Or is there another way of solving this problem?

After deploying my troops before a battle, I usually group my infantry units so that I can move them in formation when the battle starts. Then, all it takes is a right click behind enemy lines for all my infantry to start advancing. Alternatively, if I want them, say, to climb a hill and then wheeel to face the enemy, no problem. I just send the grouped units up the hill and then use the arrowe keys to reorient them, still in their original formation. It all works very well indeed and all it takes is a bit of practice.
Often, I will also run slingers/archers with cavalry support, out wide of the enemy's right flank in the hopes of disrupting their lines. Any action that might ensue can have my full attention, at least until my infantry get close enough to engage. At that point I usually select the group and tell it to halt while I reassess the situation.
Don't forget that you can instruct units to go to a destination and assume a particular orientation by selecting one or more units and then right-clicking and dragging over the destination terrain. This needs practice, particularly with regard to the orientation aspect but it's worth the effort.
The F1 Key brings up a useful list of the keyboard shortcuts available to you during battle.
