Is it possible for me to keep playing the same campaign from 1.0 in 1.5?

I would not count on it, but you never know until you try. You should upgrade your game regardless, 1.5 has a lot of bug fixes and balancing. Besides, I do not think there is any way you can play beyond the victory in 1.0.
Go here and download the 1.3 patch and install it, and then the 1.5 patch. You have to do them both in order, otherwise things get broken.
Well, it depends a bit on his comp, if it has too little ram memory, I would only reccomend patch 1.2 to avoid the memory leak bug. Anyway, you can continue playing by pressing esc and saving your game, go to the main menu and then load your save again.
Anyway...I got the patch...everything is working fine...already done 3 turns playing as Greek cities
Hoping to own the map by the end of the campaign...But I am not feeling confident as I felt with Julii...Julii had three allies...nothing to worry about...Gauls were pretty stupid too...
With greeks...I find my self surrounded by Macedon, Carthage, Selucid, Scipii and Brutii...
All these sound pretty dangerous
Currently trying to seige Athens...and trying to get allied with some factions until I am big and ready for war...
Any tips would be appreciated

Going after Athens early is definitely a good idea. It is a very wealthy city, and will probably be one of your core economic and military cities for most of the game.
After Athens you might want to load up on a ship and head down to take Kydonia. As soon as you get off the boat see what mercenaries there are for hire. There will probably be some Cretan Archers, if so, hire them. They are one of the best archer units in the game. Oh, and and take Kydonia too while you are at it...
Tactically, the Greek's strength is in their heavy infantry, and it does not come much heavier than what they get in the later game. Generally speaking your best bet is to form a long line of hoplites and simply steam-roll over enemies. Your cavalry is not so good however, you will probably not be winning any battles with them. You basically want them to guard your flanks and run down routers. If you get your hands on some of those Cretan Archers they will be a very good complement to your heavy infantry, as they can tear up anything your foot-sloggers cannot catch.
I was under the impression that upon completing a campaign, you coudl hit ESC (or whatever it is) to bring up the menu, and save the campaign. When you re-load you should be able to keep going.
Of course, my memory is rusty as.

I believe that depends on the version of your game. In the early versions I think once you complete your victory conditions the campaign just ends and that is it. I know with 1.5 it gives you a victory message and video, and then gives you the option of continuing to play or stopping there.
Here is is from my Sarmatian AAR (using BI 1.6)
btw Jax, what is it your memory is rusty as?
This is funny. I googled futinari to see what it was, and I got your post from the Middle Earth 2 Heaven saying what it is. It sounds hot. lol, your Jax.

Nope, in my first campaing on 1.0, I used the esc->save->load method to continue playing.

Oh no...
I already patched it up to 1.5 and started a Greek campaign and already QUICKSAVED IT...my Julii campaign was quicksaved too...
So, I believe that my awesome Julii empire built by me in 20 days of hard-workin', neck-breakin' days is wasted...WAAAAH!
Time to forget the past...And time to beat the hell out of Macedon and Brutii...And then the entire map
Thanks everyone...you helped a lot!

I strongly reccomend keeping some regular named files too as a backup, since saves can get corrupted, which my quick save recently was, but luckily I had a backup from just a few turns earlier.
