I finally finished the Numidian swap to my satisfaction, as well as the Britons campaign I was running when the swap was handed to me. So... who to play next? Some of you have been talking about the XGM mod, so I finally got a good download of it & got it installed. (Thanks for the step by step directions, Sub Rosa.)
Wanting something way different than anything I'd played in vanilla RTW, I started a campaign as Bactria, on H/H, large units, short campaign. Almost like a total newbie again, I'm way out on the east end of the map well beyond the edge of the world as I've known it.
My 1st spy & 1st assassin both died on their respective 1st missions, so I'm blind as a bat. I took an army on the road east & while resting on the end-of-turn, got hit by a much larger rebel army with elephants, heavy cav, archers, & several phalanx units. Tried to withdraw & they caught up with me & engaged anyway, so I got my head handed to me. Pushed back into town, I recruited & retrained & tried them again. Lost again. About 5 turns into the game, I'm 0/3 wins/losses & I net only 600 & change for new money on the end-of-turn. Different? I guess!
I'm getting the economy turned around a little now. I've captured 3 rebel towns & the nearest Selucid town (the buggers attacked my capitol!) Still things I don't understand:
1. If my capitol has a colony - where is it?
2. Here's another that really bugs me - why would I spend 1200 I don't have & waste 3 turns building this "Auxiliary Town Barracks" if it doesn't seem to allow recruiting any units? (OTOH, I'd love to build the "City Barracks" - lookit the units it allows to be recruited! Only problem is, I've never had 4800 silver so far in the game!)

3. If I build "Grain Imports", will I have to pay something every turn after to maintain the import stream?
4. Can I actually build multiple temples? I've never understood why not in vanilla RTW - as I understand it at this time in history, the followers of Judaism were about the only monotheistic group in the old world. Other cultures commonly had numerous shrines, temples, & whatever, especially in larger cities.
I think once I figure this thing out a bit more, I'm really gonna like this mod.
