well thats a little harsh..but the computer does get a +7 attack and +7 morale advantage over you on VH

There is also a possibilty that the enemy general had a goodly number of traits which increased his hitpoints, alllowing him to last much longer against you.
I remember in MTW1 this happened all the time. Enemy generals, particularly kings, would last out for an insane amount of time even when completely surrounded. That is one thing RTW has up on it.

Another thing to consider is how tiredness affects the unit stats, if for example the unit was fresh it had 10 10 (attack/defense skill) then when tired it dropped to 5 5 and exhusted to 2 2.
If this assumption is correct and the VH bonus was added onto this reduction afterwards then you would be fighting with your cav at say 3 3 and the enemies at 8 8?
In this way the more tired 2 units fighting are the more the AI benifits from it.
