After quitting my job as being manager of a lego company, I had a lot of money (yes, had). So I go searching for RTS games because of my love of commanding big armies. I buy this nice little Total War - Gold Edition pack and install it all on my PC. Immediately joyed by the prospect of killing people, I go into a Custom Battle on Rome. Of course, I use Rome's finest (though not historically accurate):
Fully upgraded Armoured Roman General
7 units of Urban Cohorts (fully upgraded, of course)
3 units of Archer Auxilia (getting the drift? guess)
6 units of Praetorian Cavalry
1 unit of Onagers
This was all today, by the way. And so, against the feeble Barbarian army of Stock Peasants, I set up my Troops into an Organized double line. Perfick. I then send them to kill the indigenous scallywag celts, and was horrified to see them run off to the right. All of them. Pissed off and fuming, I order my whole army to attack their general and the formation is horribly cluttered and ruined. Being a person who likes things organized and prestigious, I was not appeased.
So this leads to my first question; how do I get the units to do a full turn right without losing formation?
Also, how do I pause and speed up when I change to the simple_UI thing on prefferences?
Pissed off and angry, I want to play a Campaign. I do so, and, immediately angry at the small amount of Denarii, I cheat. Yes, I cheat. All of my cities become huge, and it isn't long before I control all of Gaul and Spain. Of course, I cheat to make sure I win battles too. I easily win the Short Campaign.
Then I decide to play as the Britons, without cheating, and build an economy on my island. I disband all the troops, disperse my Family amongst my 3 cities in Britain, and give Samarobriva to the Krauts as a gift. I then set out to build alliances with everyone and in about 40 turns, I have a treasury of about 100,000, a tiny army of family members, and allies all around. When I attack, it all goes wrong. I send out humongous armies of the best troop types, backed with Chariots, Woad Warriors (stupid name, because woad is a plant), Archers etc. In a couple of turns, I own Samarobriva and a small portion of Germany. All of a sudden, they whisk up some giant armies into my armies and inflict even heavier Casualties.
Boring. So I quit. I play as the Romans and notice both Britain and Egypt are doing really well. So here is my question.
Is there any way to mod the game files to hinder the Egyptians and Brits? Maybe make the Gauls, Krauts and Selucids a bit stronger? I've never modded a game (with success) before and would like to know how so I could make this mod. Cheers.
