No, we all just like to lie and waste HG's bandwidth discussing a shitty game that no one likes.

Like all the other games in the Total War series (Shogun and Medieval) Rome - Total War is a turn based strategy with real time combat.

The campaign part where you move units and decide what to build is turn based and there is no time limit.

When however two armies meet on the campaign map the game zooms in and you get to control your army in real time.

You really ought to cinsider downloading the demo (or getting it any other way). No words can really describe how the game feels to play (at least no words that I can think of).

^^^ Yep, and it's really good, though the campaign can be a bit boring before you get the other factions to play...
Although personally i find nothing more fulfilling than slaughtering the enemy with a four-way cavalry charge - i get a fuzzy, warm feeling that come from knowing i did the right thing...
Also, on the default setting, the most men i've had in a single army was 1069, but if I had unit size on large it would be about 1900...

YOU CAN GET JULIUS CAESAR!?!?!

Download the demo to see what an individual battle is like hands-on.

The overworld map for the campaign is rather like the famous game Civilization, but simpler in most regards.

Ok, so you play the game divided into turns, each turn lasting 6 months(I think...).

Basically, your 'turn' consists of you moving your armies and managing your cities and other faction stuff. When you click the end turn button, the CPU will cycle through the other factions, moving their forces and managing their factions (this usually only takes a few seconds), and then it will be your turn again.
