You only get 1,2 or 3 sea trade fleets depending on the level of port you have. I've never really looked that deeply into it but I think they probably go to the nearest ports.

I have a trade fleet from Jerusalem to Athens or Thermon (dont remember which one).

I guess what most people think is that in MTW, the length of a trade route was a factor in its profitability, also that some provinces have more valuable trade goods than others. If each trade route paid the same amount then it would not matter, but they do seem to vary. So how do you optimise trade to bring in the maximunm profit? Bearing in mind the Port=1 Shipyard=2 Dockyard=3 limitation.
