ROME: TOTAL WAR - ALEXANDER

FAQ

Q1 - What is RTW: Alexander?

RTW: Alexander is a second expansion to Rome: Total War. It was available for download on June 16 for totalwar.com subscribers, and June 19 was the date for non-subscribers. As is evident from the name, this expansion puts you inside the helmet of the legendary Macedonian conqueror, Alexander the Great. The main goal of the campaign is to conquer the great Eastern empires of the ancient world, Persia and India.

Q2 - What are the new factions?

The new factions will be: Macedon, Persia, India, and the Barbarians.

Q3 - Will I be able to play as the other factions in the campaign?

This is not known yet, but most likely not. However, there may be a mod soon after release, so keep checking back here at Rome: Total War Heaven!

Q4 - How many new units will there be?

There will be more than 60 new units in total, from Macedonian Hypaspists, Phalangists, and Companion cavalry, to Persian scythed chariots and Immortals.

Q5 - Will there be multiplayer?

Yes! You will be able to play Alexander online, with 6 new historical battles. There will also be a new Tournament Mode for multiplayer, in which you play the opponent(s) in a series of battles in one game; that is, you do not have to go back to the GameSpy lobby everytime a battle finishes.

Q6 - What are the new historical battles?

The new battles are: Chaeronea, Granicus, Halicarnassus, Issus, Gaugamela and Hydaspes.

Q7 - How long is the campaign?

There is no official word on what year the main campaign starts, but it is known that you have 100 turns to complete the objectives.

Q8 - Is Philip in the game?

The game starts after he dies.

Q9 - Is the AI any better?

Yes. There has been an incredible increase in AI. Browse around the forum and read how the computer is very hard to beat.

Q10 - What territories are included on the campaign map?

Greece, Asia Minor, North Africa, India. Basically, you'll see the Eastern half of the ancient world.

Q11 - Can the game be modded through editing the files?

Yes. For example, you can make all factions playable by editing.

Q12 - Does it cost anything?

Yes. $14.95 US, 8.95 GBP.

Q13 - Are the system requirements more demanding?

Nope.

Q14 - Where can I download Alexander?

You can download the game from either of these three sites: sega.com, totalwar.com, and sega-europe.com.

Q15 - Is there any other way I can get Alexander?

Yes. The Creative Assembly has released the Total War Eras package, which comes with a bunch of previous Total War games and it includes the Alexander expansion. In the UK, the game has been released on a separate CD.

As we get more information on the game, I'll be adding more stuff.

You'll probably have to dowload it the same way anyway, and just wait a bit longer.

Stickied.

Those of you with slow connections and who consider purchasing the Total War Eras package may want to wait until it's released in the end of June, as the Alexander expansion will be included in it.

I'm back from a week in the Carribean!

Anyways, do you think that it will be released as just a boxed, stand-alone expansion?

Great job, mate. Very direct and relevant.

Likewise, I have purchased each of the entire Total War series and their add-ons as separate and individual packages.

I'm not sure how big the "Alexander" add-on is, but my home PC is not connected to the net and I may not be able to download it on my work PC.

I really don't want to pay twice for everything I already own just to get this single add-on campaign, but I would not object to ordering it as a separate package.

Are there any plans to accomodate the majority of us who already own all these games that are in the same boat as myself?

The current on-line download can only be used by one computer and that computer must be attached to the internet to to activate it.

Contact SEGA and see what they have to say for themselves. You can download the game and copy onto a CD or memory stick, but it can only be registered to a computer with an active internet connection. Some people are saying that its not even possible to transfere it to a different computer once it has been registered.

So.. to fight the other historical battles you must first win the first one?

ok when i downloaded Alexander and i tried to install it said "No prior installation of Rome-Total War was found. The installation program will now terminate." I have RTW and BI installed and i guess the installation program is looking in the wrong directory, but how do i get it to look at the right directory?

That is an odd error message to get when you have the game installed. It has been so long since I installed it that I do not remember, but does Alexander give you the option of picking the folder you install it to? If so just manually tell it where to go.

I have Alexamder on CD and it just installed straight to the folder. It was the White Label version though, so it may be slightly different.

It might be one of those battles where there are specific objectives that must be fulfilled.

For instance, in MTW, to win the battle of Liegnitz as the Mongols you had to kill both enemy generals. Even if you win, if the generals escape, it doesn't count as a win.

There might be one of those conditions. Maybe you have to completely kill 100% of the Sacred Band or something.

Or maybe you have a bug.
