No, they are available only in custom battles. They can also be seen in the first historical battle as Philip's bodyguard...

good to know. also, alexanders bodyguard is meant to be double strength right? for me, its topping out at 125 men max, never more, whats the deal?

Personaly speaking, I believe that the royal squadron would have been more like a groups of elite companions, sort of like an elite within an elite. The royal squadron, perhaps, much like the thessalian cavalry, is in many ways, at this time period, going to dissapear, they were the elites of another time and now they are replaced by others.
