The thread title pretty much says it all. I was pleasantly surprised by the recent news that CA has made fleets as customizable as armies. Mainly because they never hinted at doing so in earlier interviews and info releases.

Anyway, I've actually given quite a bit of time to thinking of names for my armies and fleets. For the Romans, I was mainly going to borrow names from the Space Marine legions of Warhammer 40K and give them names like World Eaters and Emperor's children. For the Greeks, I'd mainly stick with historical names like Argyraspides (Silver Shields), Chalkaspides (Bronze Shields), Leukaspides (White Shields), etc. then adding the name the area I raised them from (example: Bronze Shields of Macedon).

I don't haven't brainstormed a lot of names for navies yet. Furies of Poseidon is my main one followed by Spawn of Charybdis and Sons of Scylla.

So what names have all of you picked out/brainstormed/imagined?

I'm probably going to name my armies 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. With nicknames like "The Kings Sword" and "The Suicide Squad" as they deserve them. Navies will probably follow suit.

People, especially gamers, can be so unimaginative when naming things. I'd probably name all my fleets 'Navy'

Going to be exceptionally welcome and great for AARs of extraordinary quality. An opportunity to further embrace some historical roleplay and bring additional "flavour" to stories. Or you know, add a few laughs to things as the known world of Classical Antiquity slowly becomes conquered by the Legions of Kirby.

My first Roman legion I will raise will be called Legio I Roma. After that I will mix it up i think.

Athens:
Army- Bearers of Democracy (jelly US?)
Navy- Heros of Salamis

Lusitania(if they ever release a Spanish faction)
Army- the Guardsmen..
Navy- Imperial navy

That is all I got now

That's exactly what I thought when they first announced customizable armies. I'll probably make an AAR for my Epirus campaign after I get done with my Roman one.

Might I recommend 'Champions of Athena' as another army name? Don't have any for the Lusitani off the top of my head but here is a list of Lusitanian deities that you can peruse and draw some inspiration from if you wish.

For civilised empires, something like my ETW system would do. For smaller city states like Athens, flowery names and such that'll get "upgraded" as they manage to do more stuff.

For barbarians I'm going full 40k Ork.

I'll probably start off by giving them more systematic names, 1st, 2nd, etc, +/- some province modifier. But, if they participate in a major victory or conquer a particular province, they might get an additional title to signify that they were there. It would make it more heartbreaking if they are then crushed by another army later on...which is actually kind of fun.

Numbered legions, with nicknames based on location of raising or a famous battle. Navies will be my usual fleet/squadron format I use in Victoria II, where I would have a couple of large fleets supplemented by a lot of 'stations' of smaller ships in colonies and overseas bases

I feel like my first Roman Army will be a tribute to a certain English king

Legio I:
Hammer of the Gauls

I'm more of a systematic guy too. Like Legio I, II, III etc for the Romans.

For the Greeks I'll probably get a bit more creative and use names from the Pantheon somehow.

Certainly tempted to now title one of my armies or units 'The Shades of Hades', whilst playing as one of the Hellenic factions.

Yes, I was planning on drawing names from mythology as well.

Names like "Myrmidons of Epirus", "Brothers of Hector", "Minotaurs of Minos". Or to combine the mythology theme with a systematic order; "Myrmidon VII Macedonica", "Hectorians I Troia", "Minotauria III Cretia".

All beautiful names. I have a feeling for the most part I'll stick with the generic ones automatically assigned, but for the purpose of AARs the naming will be magnificent

For some reason, I think MLP names would be shockingly appropriate for Parthian armies. I might just follow through with this idea and make everyone fear the wrath of Twilight Sparkle's Sparklers in my inevitable Parthian campaign.

I would thought my username would be appropriate for a Roman legion and would name my cataphracts: Bringers of Death.

General Rawlinson- This is most unsatisfactory. Where are the Sherwood Foresters? Where are the East Lancashires on the right?

Brigadier-General Oxley- They are lying out in No Man's Land, sir. And most of them will never stand again.

I just noticed the possibility of bad jokes pronouncing the numbers as 'eye' etc, currently the list stands at
- Legio I "Robot" (not very good)
- Legio II "Capt'n" (where I started with this idea)
- Legio III "Delilah"
- Legio IV "Drip"

M'hannat I, M'hannat II, ect for armies, Yam I, Yam II ect for navies when I'm Carthage. Not sure what I'll do for barbarians and others. Maybe something related to Game of Thrones? The Bloody Mummers, the Unsullied?
