I'm new to RTW and after completing the Julii campaign on easy, I thought I'd try the Britain one on moderate. Needless to say it's been an exercise in frustration.
I get all the economy upgrades - farms, mines, roads, markets, etc. I secure trade with everyone and manage to accumulate quite a bit of money by selling map information and trade rights. I get only enough boats to defend myself and for transport, and just enough military to defend on land. I make alliances with the neighbouring factions too.
Before long I'm doubled by Gual and Germania so after running all over the map to defend my settlements I end up with about 50 denarii of income each turn and absolutely no chance of winning. I defeat army after army (making sure no soldiers are left from the opposing teams) and a steady supply of Gual and Germania armies roll in merrily with a seemingly inexaustable supply of enemy troops. In spite of being prudent with buildings (getting only those I need), I still don't seem to get enough income to survive. It takes 20 turns before most of my cities produce anything worth while. I've only managed to take the reble town of Tara in Ireland and Trier in addition to the starting buildings you're given as Briton. I can't seem to make any more headway. I make alliances with Gual and Germania, but still they attack.
This is suppose to be fun?
Anyway I'm close to shelving the game but I'm willing to hear any input on how to actually survive on moderate difficulty as Briton.
