Q20 is wrong. You CAN still play after failing to meet your victory conditions, and even after your time runs out.
When I played with england i failed to meet my victory condition because i didnt conquer jerusalem, but i could still keep playing. i played more than 500 turns like this.
Q26 - I think this means, are the events triggered according to the number of turns passed or the number of years passed. I wondered the same question before and the answer is the number of YEARS. So let's say the 'world is round' events occurs after 370 years, if the timescale is 2.0 (two years per turn) the event would occur after you play 185 turns. If you changed the timescale to 0.5 (six months per turn) the event would occur only after you have played 740 turns.
I have played with a timescale of 0.5 and the game gets seriously mundane. nothing ever happens... There's no benefit of reducing the value of timescale either, just makes the game more realistic but there's no real benefits to it. So i recommend sticking to timescale 2.

I have a problem with modding at the minute, I have file first = true in my preferences and I have put dismounted gothic knights in export_descr_buildings to recruit on two of the castles but when I go into the game there is not the option to recruit them any help would be appreciated.
