Rise of Etruria 0.1 Beta Released

This mod adds the Etruscans to the vanilla campaign game. It also merges the Romans into one faction and makes some other small changes as well.

So without further ado, the mod:

The Etruscans

The Etruscans were once the dominant faction on Italy, but since the Romans grew to power the Etruscans were absorbed into the empire, and Loyalists fled to nearby Corsica.

Now it is time for the Etruscan peoples to fight back. Etruria is already under Etruscan control and with the Romans reeling from the recent blow, the Etruscans are already looking south to Rome...

The Etruscan territories:

Etruscan Noble Cavalry:

More screenies:

With the promise that the tyrannical rule of Rome would be overthrown, the Gauls have sent many of their best cavalrymen to aid the Etruscans in their plight. With the recapture of Etruria, the Gauls have also sent some of their best hunters, in an effort to aid the Etruscan war machine...

While far away from Gaul, in the Greek province of Laconia, the world's best warriors board ship, and set sail for the island of Corsica. With an Etruscan/Greek alliance firmly in place, and the Gauls merrily supporting their cause, all looks set for the Etruscans to take back what is rightfully theirs...

Thanks to:

I've got a problem with adding a temple, I get a CTD from the loading screen into the game with no error message. Will post the code when I boot into windows.

In export_descr_buildings.txt, make sure there there are no lines between any of the entries. For example, this would cause a crash:
plugins
{
}
}

building temple_of_horse_2
{
And this would work fine:
plugins
{
}
}
building temple_of_horse_2
{
That was causing a crash when I made my first new building.

Does this building replace the existing temples of war? This could cause the problem, because there can be only one temple_of_war for each culture. Try changing this to something like temple_of_scipii_war and see if it works.

As far as I know the existing temples of war are named temple_of_violence

You could add a Samnite faction. I'm a little annoyed actually. You pre-empted me as I was considering an Italia: Total War mod. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

EDIT: Samnites to replace Brutii, that is.

By the way, If King Louise Assurbanipal accepts, I shall be using some of his units in this mod.

I'm being polite. I know he's publicly released them but still.

If he doesn't reply by the time the mod is close to completion I'll use them anyway.

A couple of new units to admire...

From Left to right: Corsican Phalangites, a powerful elite phalanx unit for Etruria and Etruscan Armoured hoplites, infantry of the line, the Legionary of the phalanx.

Thanks To KLA for making awesome skins for people to use.

Also, I've tweaked a fair few things. Romans will have specialised troops, depending on where in the world you want to expand, and Carthage and Greece will have more of a say in italian affairs. Just waiting for permission to use a skinpack, and then I should have a beta release out soon. Anyone wishing to do some private beta testing for me email ,e at old(dot)marc(at)gmail(dot)com.

I'm planning on changing the colour scheme a bit, or keeping it blue and modifying the skins. Also, the factionsymbol will change.

Right, I need a couple of beta testers, sign up with forum name and email to old(dot)marc(at)googlemail(dot)com.

This is basically to point out errors in skins and for a little help on balancing. Also, Clark, could you recolour a few skins?

Courtesy of Clark, a new peltast for the Etruscans:

These guys are pretty much like any other peltast, except they have larger shields, giving them an advantage over other peltasts. However, they do not have any armour except their tunic and are weak in hand to hand combat.

  • Brand new Italy focused map.
  • More factions, possibly Syracusae or Epirus.
