I almost always play a Roman faction. I got into a 1 v 1 gave by a guy who said he didn't want to play against Rome. So I chose Greece for no very good reason. When it came time to choose a strategy, I remembered reading about the Wheel of Doom, so I decided to give it a shot. I don't believe Greece is one of the civilizations that WOD is recommended for, but as you see, it will work. Just barely though, as the Greek cav quickly folded against the heavy Parthian cav rather quickly. I pull out a win, but it is close. Still, I am proud of the result.

... I cried. Let's just say that your strategy is similiar to the Wheel of Doom only in shape, it is essentially another - not at all impressive - tactic.

I put your victory down to general incompetence of your opponent rather than your skill or the power of your tactic. With a large force of onagers, he could have simply knocked out your own and started pounding your formations, perhaps with the help of his archers. Instead, he chose to hit your archers instead.

He panicked far too easily. He outgunned you in terms of artillery, and might have been able to eliminate your onagers and your Spartans. But he didn't. He moved his line with all 3 onagers intact, before even taking much casualties from onager fire, and without even being shot at by Cretans.

Artillery duels should be settled with non-flaming ammo. Both of you seem to consider the enemy onagers to be useless and made no effort towards knocking them out - if so, why buy onagers at all? The foremost purpose of onagers in the Wheel is to knock out artillery, second to induce panic. The second you succeeded, the first you didn't even try.

There is a line in my strategy specifically stating "Do not use Greek cavalry for this task." The very purpose of the Wheel of Doom is to overwhelm the enemy flank, then surround them. Your success lies in that the enemy apparently did not know how to handle Spartans and allowed your archers to survive. Bronze Shields could have pinned down and surrounded Spartans while cavalry chased archers off the field and attacked Spartans from behind. I doubt he was at all pressed for time to eliminate your Spartans quickly, he could have walked his Cappadocians around leisurely and hit you from both sides.

On the plus side, the Spartan manuevering and Greek cav flanking was superb, and definitely contributed to your victory.

Additional Comments:
I've posted a topic in the multiplayer forums about people failing to copy tactics successfully; I never thought I would see it realized so soon.

I had 4 onagers for a reason; two onagers are not enough to deal serious damage to enemy lines or to knock out enemy artillery. I had 6 cav and recommended against Greek cav for a reason; with anything less than 6 elite cavalry, you have little chance of winning the flanking war.

And a final note, your opponent was Pontus, not Parthia.
