Rome: Total Realism 5.3

Author File Description
KoR_Wraith NOTE: You MUST download and install version 5.2 (http://rtw.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=3688) prior to installing this patch that fixes some issues.

Fixes a number of issues that cropped up out of Rome: Total Realism 5.2 including a new menu video (that uses wmv instead of avi encoding) and fixing of several rather serious Crash to Desktop issues. Requires a full 5.2 installation. More changes this patch includes:

Various bug fixes

Changed time-sensitive Ancillaries (named people) to arrive at the proper time period (due to 280bc start)

Made brutii/scipii resources avalible to the julii (Romans)

Dead Sea graphical glitch, blocky sea coast fix, lesbos port fixed (caused CTD)

Vices and Virtues ("vnv") cleanup

Secondary sword weapons for units which dont have swords in their skin/model - causing CTDs

Removal of defunct units in the rebel files - causing CTDs

Reversion of all "Scythian" to "Sarmatian" units

Repackaged menu video, .wmv format - no need for a codec, should work for everyone

Pyrrhus gets a slightly larger army in italy (+2 hoplites, +1 slinger)

Fixed ghost unit for Sarmatia (showing up as "unlocalised placement text" in custom battle)

Athenian hoplites are nearly as good as Spartan hoplites

Removal of horde formation for barbarian cavalry units, once they were in wedge formation, they could not get out

All buildings should show up on the battlemap now

Some units have 2 health points, when they should have 1

Fixed ptolemaic legionarys so their stats are not rediculous

Fixed greek walls - causing CTDs

Slighty increased elephant defense rating - velites should have a tougher time killing them

Balanced chariot combat stats

Removal of the greek fleet from Rhodos and the Seleucid fleet from Peragum

More resources in the east

The parthians starting armies are now Seleucid auxilaries - they cannot be trained or retrained but have a much lower upkeep

There was a bug where enslavement did not function properly for the new provinces

drakkon Hurrah! No more CTD! It works great; if you have RTR v 5.2 I recomend this patch highly. Great job.
brumsky i had to reinstall the game and the mod... well after i did that it will not let me start the prologe, it just goes back to the new game menu. and it makes you play the stupid proluge instead of going start into the game.
Lucullus Go to the file called details or something among the game files and change the first timep play to FALSE

At the New Game screen all the options are grayed out besides Prologue and when I try to run the Prologue my game crashes!
This is one of the most common problems experienced with Rome: Total Realism and is also the easiest to fix. Whats happening is, the game is detecting that it is your first time running the game and thus defaults to Prologue mode. In order to unlock the other game options and 'trick' your game into working follow these simple steps:

Browse to C:>Program Files>Activision>Rome - Total War or your Rome: Total War installation directory.
Open preferences.txt - it should automatically open with NotePad but if it does not right click on it and select "open with" and then once prompted, select NotePad from the list of avalible applications.
Scroll down to line 58 where it reads FIRST_TIME_PLAY:TRUE and change it to FIRST_TIME_PLAY:FALSE . Save the file.
Play Rome: Total Realism. Remember to select "Provincial Campaign."

brumsky thanx i got it working now... but i ctd when i play as the greeks. it happens when im beseiging a city for more than two turns. just though i'd let you know. bye the way nice mod.
ali_hurricane I would download this, but i just need it All in one. (the two patches and the full realism game put together to make a normal mod) instead of that. I will need to reinstall my Rome total war, cause it's modded, Install the Rome Total War patch. THEN install realism and then the other two patches, in my view it's just to much hassle for ONE mod.
