My thinking was to advance quickly and negate the archer/onanger's and roll around 1 flank with overwhelming force sending light infantry and cav in unison to attack romes cavalry wing annihilate it and get back quickly to assist my holding infantry before they break. This as you will see worked very well. Are these players Good? well the RTK guy has been playing since shogun he pushed me to the wire when i screwed up and didnt reform. and all i can go on is 12 or so wins straight with this last night. Maybe you lads can tell me what you think. Working strat or nah all newbies?
I'm not the best player, so take what I say with a pinch of salt.
To me it looks like a pretty good variation of the hammer and anvil tactic. I think I noticed using Chosen Axemen to bait their cavalry into a charge, giving your own cavalry an edge when you would charge them in overwhelm them.
As for the players, if I remember right some seemed to put up a good fight. Others just kind of charged in and let go.
Personally, I think it'd be interesting how well it'd work against some other tactics (and factions).

One of them guys was a noobie I think. I remember when he started online Rome. He is pretty good now though. Tactics look good but why did they let you pin them like that. I like the battles i watched all of them. I really liked the one where the guy was routing everybody with those archers. Pretty funny. You won that one didn't you, I can't remember?

The hammer and anvil tactic you say. Yes i agree it is a variation on that. Most of my opponents had some knowledge of how to defend i think maybe bar the lad that went 4 onangers I hate onangers as i think those who use it hope for lucky kills rather than creating victorys through their own skill and this strat was designed to destroy them. Yes i use chosens to bait their cav, In the cav on cav battle i will lose so i gotta improvise it means losing 1 to 2 ranks of axemen but it's worth it. I think some people see the spearmen and expect a static defense and get suprised by the aggressive tactic, also u may have noticed that i mainly attack the right flank and do not charge into the centre buying my spear men just little more time to hold out. Games where played a few days ago and i only get really saisfied when i play barb on rome. would the strat work on different faction's probably not. Against the selucid's for example i maybe would replace the axemen with archers. thanks for your comments.

Catapults are fun. I love smashing enemy with catapults. I usually use them as a diversion though. It's funny when other people have catapult i will try to manuevre my army between their thickest units and the catapult. One of the funnest things for me is getting their catapults to demolish their own men.
