This truly was an epic struggle and had everything you could ask for in a battle. Elephants, artillery, huge infantry lines, a ton of cav charges...and some crispy pigs.
Honestly I was reluctant to post this mainly because it showcases a disaster in my judgement and my entire army is destroyed half-way through the battle. Luckily Johndisp had all his infantry and archers in near mint condition and despite Sparty's and Dio's really heroic effort, they're forces were just too small and tired to be able to finish the comeback.
A few notable events in this battle:
I once again rely on Elephants (and plenty of them)to do most of my heavy killing.
Dio's pigs rout and fool me into believing they're gone...a small hint...they're not.
My infantry force is crushed so fast that you might miss it if your not paying attention.
Johndisp's Desert cav routs and rallies many times before finally running out of gas (and men)
Peasants hold their own against tired urbans and a half-hearted cav charge!
No breaks in the action! Ths fight is a desperate struggle throughout!
I like the fast pace of this game the attacker's had their work cut out for them with the defender's formation and unit's. I would like to know the players tactical thinking at the start to help me understand it more.
The first roman attack sending cav far ahead of his own lines to certain slaughter lost the attackers a full cav wing not good and then attacking a phalannx head on!! this was doomed to failure from the start. Egypt had little to do and sel sent the eles in at just the right time good co-op.
Roman attack 2 sparty attacked the phalanx nicely with a pincer but the mass rout of the allies and breach therefore of his flank made matters next to impossible. 3 ele's!!!
Personaly I would have taken both armies together left at the last moment and attacked the ss and levy pike men and started a mass rout there attacking from the left flank inwards. and used archers fire arrows and all available cav rather than pigs against the eles but i could well have met the same fate.
Nice game and quite a spectical to watch i seen it twice. Were the peasents there to re-route the enemy cav formation or to sweep up routers? did the attackers have a pre-set co-operative plan?

Hmm, nice game.
Dio should know that Praetorian cavalry are no match for their Desert counterparts! He lost so much cav in that attack it might have turned the battle.
Nice slaughter of the seleucid Infantry. :)
But while they were getting slaughtered the Egyptians just sat back with their uber-bowmen and mopped up afterwards.
I think the second Scipii Cav unit would have done better to attack the Egyptians from behind and see what damage they could do.
Oh, and I love the incendiary pig General, he was running amok!

Good game. Poor Dio rushed the Praetorian Cavalry in against the Desert Cavalry. That was truly and example of elephants used excellently. And when they finally routed the Desert Cavalry, they made the mistake of leaving them to rout alone. They had too many men and regrouped. Had they chased the Desert Cavalry, they would have had more of a chance, since the Desert Cavalry did a lot more damage coming back at the Roman rear.
