I went with carthage like I always do. For my forces I selected 4 units of sacred band inf, 4 units of sacred band cav, a general and 3 slinger units. I then used the rest of my money to upgrade my inf's shields and experiance and my cavs shields and attack.
Creon went thrace. He picked 6 units of pikes, 4 units of Bastarnae(heavy thrace inf) 8 units of archers and a general. He did not get anything in the way of improvements
The battle started on a holling plain with a chunk of forest between us. I pushed forward with my sacred band inf and slings while circling to my right with my cav. I stopped out of range of his archers and started pestering his lines with my slings.
Creon then moved his lines forward to get his archers in range. He rapidly killed many slingers so I was forced to move them back quickly. Now here is where I made my 1 major mistake. I decided to use my cav and try and crush creon's right wing pikemen head on and get at his archers. The charge was a disaster. I lost nearly half my cav in a few moments and the remaining men fled.
Creon quickly counter attacked around my right flank with his general and a another cav unit and started messing up my slingers. I made my slings fight his general to try and hold them. I got lucky, some slinger get in a poke at the general and took him down.
While this was going on my elite sacred band were slowly grinding forward through creons center pikeline. However the battle still looked lost. I was outnumbered 3 to 1 and he had plenty of arrows to bombard me with. Here is where Creon made his own big mistake. He did not move his archers well back of the main battle line so they could not get low enough shots at my inf. So pretty soon my sacred band had broken his pikeline and got at his archers. After that the outcome was never in question. My sacred band cut into his archers and soon Creon's whole force was running.
That was a good game. Close call, I'm half amazed you won, (though that's not a criticism of your gameplay) your opponent seemed to handle himself well.
