A viable means to attack aggressively with the Gauls has always eluded me and no help is available online as no one really plays em.
I thought and pondered then tried, charged fell flat on my face into a disorganised mess then repeated, until i got the timing very roughly to what i envisioned and with luck, as many of the units disobey and attack a target contrary to my master plan.
The Gauls units are substandard but its an itch i just gotta scratch. I try to make my advance look disorganised when really i have a manouver in mind.
I use 2 differnt styles of play here i.e. Vs Carthrage is inspired by hannibal as i try to bait the infantry into a double envelopment/ encirclement by using a retreating frontline and my general as the carrot on a stick to bring the enemy infantry forward digging them selves futher into disaster.
4 replays Gaul Vs Rome x 2 Vs Carthrage x 1 Vs Spain... 2 tactics both aggressive and swift.
Got any ideas for improvement where are my errors, Anyone got Gaul replays? -Do Tell...
Did you notice Carthage had only 12 units? No cavalry worth mentioning. He selects all his units and attacks one of yours, that's why his line forms somewhat of a spearhead. I'm not really impressed by this victory.
I'd like to see a little more diversity in your setups. I don't know if that would make your army more succesfull but it would be a better watch :)
I never play gauls so this is all the comment I can give on these games. I'll start playing them a bit though and I'll get back to you.

Yes Const The Carthrage player was very basic and just marched forward with his pikes and spearmen towards my centre comprised of barb infantry.
An xperienced player will not really pick up too much from this match i suspect, although judging by the lobbies im guessing many noob's would watch the replays here also and it does show for them clearly what not to do.
i.e. phalanxes will beat barbs head on with ease so i showed a possible way to hold the attention to the centre and capture the flanks and why the rear was so easily compromised due to the sparse cavalry protection.
Ez for us to comprehend, maybe not for the new lads as i havent seen many/any Gaul vs phalanx replays. I liked the close similarity to Cannae in this match the principle is the same.
Ive uploaded Gaul on the defence here before vs rome and egypt but never felt confident on the attack, due to its rarity i thought id upload.
I wish you good luck with the Gauls and ill be looking forward to your tactics and some Gaul ownage on the attack against rome.

Personally I prefer campaigning to the down-in-the-dirt fighting , but I would suggest using cavalry more often; use your infantry as a distraction whilst you get your cavalry onto the flanks or rear, like with your Cannae idea, the hannibal thing. Otherwise you could pretend to be organised and then charge wildly, kind of the opposite of one of your tactics. Lots of forester warbands works well against most enemies, too, especially Romans.
Sorry. That comment was useless.
