This is basically a mod for 300 v 1 000 000 000
v1.2 well made by koricsidi. There are just a few changes like a different name and a longer description, which is quite good.

Well (if you're using Windows XP, you go to Drive C:/ then Program Files. Find the folder which you saved the Rome: Total War data in. then click on data then world then maps then battle then custom. Then paste the folder provided in there. Hope that helps! |

The actual battle was more like 7,000 against 100,000.The terrain of Thermopylae pass helped the greeks by preventing the persians from effectively using their numbers. The Greeks were able to rotate their troops in so that the soldiers didn't get exhausted in the first day.In the second day they weren't able to. In the third day, the scouts reported the persians had discovered the pass, and the spartan commander sent all but 2,300 home, and the greeks staying behind were massacred by the persians. As we can see from this, the persians weren't worse than the greeks, and the greeks weren't better than the persians. The Greeks picked the best strategic spot available, and were able to halt the advance of the persian horde. |

Some ones got it wrong, first off yes the greeks were better at fighting than the persians, and the major part of there army was trained for war , unlike most of the persians who were slaves. Not only that but it contained the top 300 warriors from sparta, who were trained from birth to fight and were the best of there kind.
Second off even after the battle of Themopyale the greeks proved there worth with defeating the persians in the second battle, still greatly outnumbered they slaughtered the persian advance.

Clearly you guys dont know your history. and the 300 spartan MOVIE was TOTALLY incorrect, with all the mythical creatures like lord of the rings.
Some people believe the persian mustered up 300,000. and other believes exceeding 2 million.
and yes there were 7000 greeks, BUT only 300 spartans. just because the movies called "300" doesn't mean there were only 300 men fighting.
Sparta would only allow them to take 300 spartans because they deemed the fight as pointless. So all the other men came from athens and all the other city states in greece. (who fought with each other until that time)

I will download this file and post what I think. Thank you.
I would also like to make a couple of comments, having read through this thread and the ongoing arguments of the movie "300" and it's acuracies and inacuracies I would like to add my 2 cents.
Firstly, the movie was not horrendously inacurate from history like others of it's kind (Braveheart for one), yes 300 was "Hollywoodfied" of course it was, it's a movie, but the beasts (as they have been called) were depicted how they were in scrolls, imagine being a Spartan or Thespian standing at the hotgates and getting your first look at an elephant or Rhino, you've never seen such a beast before so as in human nature, when the story is told , these beasts were so tall they block out the sun, strong enough to carry 50 men and roared so loud they cracked shields. It's the fishermans story of "The one that got away" The movie didn't exajerate these animals, Dilios (the narrator of 300 played by David Wenham) and a few others who told the tale did. As for the "Immortals" these men were not Immortal, the Immortals were a highly trained unit of exactly 10,000 soldiers, they were known as "Immortals" because when one was killed he was instantly replaced by another giving the impression these men could not be beaten, the horrid face of the Immortal Dilios saw in the battle was belived to be nothing more than a battle scared soldier, but again when Dilios told the tale the "Immortal" was "a horrificly disfigured beast with huge teeth and a look of death"
As for numbers, 300 Spartans, and a combine Greek City states force of around 6-7000 other soldiers held the "Hot Gates" at Thermopylae against what has been widely agreed to have been around 200,000 persians.
The 300 held the gates themselves as a front line. Contrary to popular belief, Leonidas took only his personal bodyguards, and not the army, because the majority of the Spartan Army was coordinating with the massed naval forces of the Greeks against the Persian Navy and NOT because of some religious reason.
The 300 held the gates until a Malian Greek traitor named Ephialtes showed the Persians a mountain track that would enable the Persians to flank the 300+. The figure in the movie is quite obviously a metaphoric example of this man.
Leonidas was one of the first of the 300 to fall on the 6th day of the battle (Xerxes did not attack until the 4th day)after which the remaining 300 stood over thier leaders body and fought to the death.
Xerxes had Leonidas's body beheaded and crcified, (it was later recovered and buired in Sparta)
This battle was the turning point of the Persian invasion, Persia had marched over much of Greece, Athens was abandoned and pretty much only Sparta and Macedonia were left untouched.
King Leonidas and his 300 were 90% of the reason the Persian Army fell, Spartans were bread warriors from birth, ALL spartan men. The most perfect fighting machine the world has ever known derived from selective in-breading to create the perfect race of soldiers. For 400 years it worked. Sparta had slaves to do the normal jobs of men because every Spartan born with defects was destroyed and ALL others were bread to fight and die for Sparta.
Of course no one will ever know what REALLY happend, we can only gather scrolls and artifacts and put together some form of picture. The movie 300 told the story very well, probably very close to how it was originally told by Dilios. (who is claimed by some to be nothing more than a Myth)
Bottom line, Leonidas and his 300 Spartans are undoubtedly the greatest military unit ever to grace the planet.[Edited on 04/25/09 @ 08:46 AM]

yes everybody knows that its historically unacurrate but we all know that the movie was based on the comment of a soldier that was inspiring his troops which at the same time is the work of a comic from darkhorse comics which at the same time was inspired by a 60s movie based on a battle which accured aproximatly 3000 years give or take, which on its own has little records, give it a rest. |
