I always try to do something different with my AARs. I picked the Tokugawa because I haven't seen many AARs for them, nor does anyone talk about how they are their favourite faction. They start off in a pretty interesting position, close to central Japan and Kyoto, but from the start of the game the Clan is a vassal to the larger Imagawa Clan which severely restricts what you're able to do in terms of making your own wars and alliances. I can literally only make trade agreements or engage in backdoor politics such as paying Clans to cease trading/alliances with others etc. I could declare war on the Imagawa, but betraying them in such a way has a significant 'honour' penalty which effects how much other Clans like me, how loyal my Generals are and how happy my people are, it isn't a road I want to go down if I can possibly help it.
The Tokugawa clan start the game in Mikawa Province. Their clan traits are reduced recruitment, and upkeep costs for their superior battlefield Kisho Ninja. They also benefit from a bonus to diplomatic relations and lastly, their Metsuke have a better chance of a successful action on the campaign map. My victory objectives are to become Shogun by capturing and holding Kyoto, whilst also holding 40 provinces including Mikawa, South Shinano, Suruga and Totomi. These regions are coloured light green on the map, my starting province is dark green.
In terms of the way this AAR is written, I want to take a mixed approach. Some chapters will be narrated by a specific character, which will be noted at the beginning of that chapter, others will proceed as standard fare. Due to the fairly complex structure I'll include and update this post to help you keep track of what's going on. Especially the family members, generals and other characters who feature throughout. There is also a Glossary for help with the technical terms for those unfamiliar with Shogun 2 or the Sengoku Period in which the game takes place. Finally, the stat tracker is just for a bit of fun and will be updated after each chapter. It is also worth noting that historically, the Tokugawa Clan was originally the Matsudaira Clan. Ieyasu changed his name to Tokugawa in order to be eligible to hold the seat of Shogun, claiming descent from the old Minamoto Clan which was a requirement.
