I didn't say rome and america were alike. What I mean by that comparison is that they were the expansionists of the time and they more or less used themselves as the standard for what is normal etc. Their language was just as popular around the known world as is american english today.
American english seems to be accepted as the most bland, normal, generic sort of english today (and I am not saying I agree with it or that it's ethical). All I am saying is, Rome is the genericm standard civ in the game and they are given what is widely considered to be the generic standard english today.
Besides, if you can show me how me how to speak with ancient latin accent, as well as ancient germanic, greek, persian, phoenician, etc., I will personally make special dubbing for you. Just because the eastern speech is based on some generic middle eastern/east european accent (and I had heard more than my sare of those) that you hear less often than the american does not mean it is accurate. The only way to make it accurate is to speak the original languages, but then if you wanna understand what they are saying, you have to be some insane linguist.
Personally, the speech does not ruin my experience.
Sorry if I have offended you somehow, wasnt my purpose.
The last thing to go through my mind was the pavement...
-"Where the hell is Bulgaria?"
-"On the west coast of Mars."
