I dunno if u could but i heard in medevil that u could mount and dismount but even if u couldnt i think that u should be able to dismount and become inf and mount to become cav, which brings me to another thing: when a cav soldir dies, i dont think it should always be both man and beast fall, sometimes, the man dies and the horse runs amok and other times the horse dies and the man gets up to avenge his horse (and not get trampled).

Indeed, in Medieval Total War, before a battle you could tell the following units to dismount.

Feudal Knights (become Feudal Foot Knights)
Chivalric Knights (become Chivalric Foot Knights)
Gothic Knights (become Gothic Foot Knights)
Ghulam Cavalry (become Saracen Infantry)

I think some horsemen should be able to mount/dismount before a battle.

EDIT- The ones here are the units that could mount/dismount in Medieval Total War. I'm not saying they should have these unit I'm only saying that these uunits could dismount in MTW and that there should be some elite cav that should be able to dsimount before a battle in RTW OK?

chivarly and knights(in the contemporary sense) did not come until long long time after rome fell,i think expansion pack deals with that period the dark ages not middle ages.

Yeah that would make it a lot easier for cav civs to besiege.

They probably won't add dismounting for cavalry units because it was something that was far more common in the middle ages than in ancient times. In the middle ages, Knights would often dismount to fight on foot...this just didn't happen much in the ancient world.

So if your horse died you'd just have to lie where you were and hope that someone didn't stab you?

Here's how it should work.

Horses and their riders have diffrent HP, if the horse dies before the rider, the rider falls, suffers 5 damage or so (instant death for elephants most likely) and gets back up on foot. If the Rider dies before the horse, then the horse probably "runs amok", can be remounted by a diffrent unit, though it'd have to be a unit that was Orignally on a horse, as foot soldiers wouldn't know how to ride. OR the horse in question could just rout (not the whole unit)

yes, yes, but i still think that some cav can dismount . . . if u know how to ride, u know how to run.

What they should do concerning cavalry in the expansion is give you what remains of a family member's Heavy cavalry guards if that family member is killed in battle...similar to Shogun.

If a rider survives he becomes a 1 man a.i. unit. How's about that? The unit gorws in size with each new rider who survies a fall from a horse.

Maybe for the expansion pack cavalry units could have a dismount/mount option where a certain percentage of the unit would have to stay with the horses and the rest could move around as infantry until they remount during a battle.

That would be cool to have riderless horses running around the battlefield when the rider gets killed. It would be difficult though to have people without horses running after their cavalry unit so maybe they could get on the back of someone elses horse then that unit would move slower depending on how many people have to double up on horses.
