Hi, i'm new here and got a question right away. Is it possible to kill your own men? For example, shooting arrows at the enemy while your hastati is fighting them in close combat?.

Read that link too. When there is a big mass of troops engaged in melee, sometimes I run my archers around the back, that way they can fire into their foes backsides without hitting friends. (only do it though if my foe has calvery commited elsewere already) It gives them a nasty choice: get shot in the back or turn around and get stabbed in the back.

i like how the archers can kill your own men. that way you have to use strategy and not just masses of troops to defeat an enemy. usually for me i let my archers hit them in the beggining. but when the melee starts i send then to the back and send a cheap unit (mercenary warband) to engage the enemy. this way i might sacrifice the cheap units and have the archers bang the other side.

Actually, I've found that AI(of all things) controlled troops usually do better in friendly fire situations. Usually I put my archers, skirmishers and siege on AI assist just before the enemy closes in to avoid friendly fire.

And on the other hand I've had AI-reinforcement Spanish Mercenaries throw their javelins in the rout following a battle, killing half my captain's Round Shield Cavalry unit.
