Topic Subject:New article: Local Superiority: Gaining it and How to Use it

Another new article is now available on Rome: Total War Heaven. The article, written by Erzin, deals with local superiority: how to be superior on one part of the battlefield, so you can overwhelm the enemy there and then move on to the next part of his or her army. This allows you to defeat armies that are much larger than your own, so knowing how to gain it and use it can be very valuable indeed.
This article can be found here. Or you can access the article via our battle strategy section. Feel free to post comments and other feedback in this thread.

Local superiority was essential in my early charge designs. It can indeed turn the tide of any battle, in anyone's favour, so mastering it is crucial. This guide gives newbies a good headstart on learning.

I learned a lot. Thank you very much. It seems like one of those things that can backfire, however. It seems very easy to be used on you while you're thinking about using it on the enemy.

It is, even with the retarded AI.
I call the result the Sherrifmuir Effect, and in a broad sense it is. If both sides use local superiority and are successful, the battlefield rotates. You have to backfire on your own local superiority to win in this situation, and that can mean all the fighting on one side of a battlefield and none on the other, even when your units and those of the AI are about ten feet apart! But you will have kept the battlefield still, and thus are back to something near normality.

I have already written another one and have sent it to Hussarknight. I had no idea about the custom title scheme. Now I have even more motivation to write these articles. But at the moment I have no new ideas.

Good job, Erzin.
Some of the grammar rubbed against my cultured grain here and there, but the essence of your message came across loud and clear- and very insightful indeed.
You wrote a very well-thought-out and detailed lesson for our Peers - experienced or not!- that explains how and why a smaller army is not always the losing army. It all depends on the general and his insight- and if he does not have it, you just gave it to him.
Well done!
