A very good guide, and not at all superfluous, as the Seleucids spark many help threads in the forums. I'd suggest making a two-way link between this and the Opening Moves guide, as they would make a good combination.

I believe that the V shape formation is not as good as simply places your men right in front of the bridge to face the enemy head on as this would mean more pikes and less men that can get through and have a chance at attacking your men.
Try this withn spartan hoplites and you will see that with my tactic the enemy won't even be able to lay a finger on them.

This was in vanilla 1.5 RTW - the Selucids do have an outpost in Sardis at the start of the game.
I'm sure I ran down to Halicarnassus ASAP & also up to Nicomedia & Ancyra while they're still in rebel hands. IIRC, this was the campaign where Ancyra was so small it didn't have a government building at all when I assaulted. It was just a few huts & a couple basic rebel units. Only time I think I've ever seen a town with NOTHING built!
Also went over to Byzantium while it was still rebel & I think I took Pergamum very early, too. Consolidating most of Asia Minor very early (& getting several port sites besides) really helped me in the western part of this campaign, I think.

Hussarknight: I do not believe so as its common sense that you are just allowing more of the enemy to face you and they might even have the ability to get around you.
Try 2 custom battles of:
2 Spartan hoplites in my formation and then one in yours against two legionary cohorts and some praetorian cavalry and give me your comments
