Ask away general questions or suggestions about Mongolphobia Mod.

V. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q.Why isnít Chinggis the leader of the Mongols?
A.I am a big fan of Chinggisís oldest son Jochi, and historically his son Batu kicked ass along with general Subedei (Subutai in the game) in their European campaign. That is why I included those three as starting generals for the Mongols.

Q.Timur is the only family member in the beginning! And he is single!
A.Yes and I planned it so. Historically, Timur the Lame had built up his empire only through his wits alone and I want the players to experience the same situation. Donít worry. Timur is an unrivalled general compared to his contemporaries with only 27 years of age, and heís got a good mix of heavy troops to start with. Soon enough you will receive adoptions and marriages, so as long as you donít get Timur killed in the first 5 turns, you will be fine.

Q.Are the Mongol/Timurid invasion events still enabled?
A.Yes. Although this time they will appear as reinforcements rather than horde units. Since they have upkeep so they will heavily drain your/AIís economy. Still they are very experienced troops and Iím sure you want to keep them. Tops the challenge by a notch if you are fighting against them as well.

Q.I have trouble with getting your mod to work.
A.Try restarting (NOT REINSTALLING) your M2:TW after you replaced those files. I hope to God you backed up your original files incase you messed up. If it still doesnít work then contact me through the Medieval II forums in www.rtw.heavengames.com. Mongolian players can contact me in www.asuult.netand go to the computer game forums section within. A member Arcus has a topic for Total War fans which I visit frequently. Place your question there. You can also reach me through my e-mail : javadagreat@yahoo.com although I only check it twice a week.

Q. Does Mongolphobia Mod overwrite vanilla data files?
A. The files will be merged with the folders of Retrofit Mod so your vanilla game will not be affected in any way.

Q. Any other ways to enhance my gameplay?
A. There are some awesome looking skins for the Mongol soldiers, which can be downloaded here. The new skins makes the Mongols even more unique to behold.

To me, the 'retainers of war' aren't flawed enough. I put their charge up to something like 20 or 25, but their actual attack down to 1. Don't know if you'd like to do that

Might I suggest making the knightly guilds much easier to get (So we can battle them ), and if we manage to capture, say, a Santiago chapter house as France we can still recruit the knights of St. Jimmy? I'd do it myself, but it requires some fiddling with that big scary notebook file

Sorry for not responding earlier Dan. I posted the likely cause for the error on the technical discussion thread.

Here is what you can do Demi. You should rename your Retrofit folder (in Mods folder) into something different, Retrofit1 for example. After that, run the Retrofit installation again. When it is done, you will have two Retrofit folders--Retrofit1(original) and Retrofit(second one). Install the Grand Unit Addons and Mongolphobia Mod. They will all be installed on over your second Retrofit since they don't recognize Retrofit1.

Enjoy playing my Mongolphobia Mod and should you wish to open regular Retrofit for hot-seat, simply rename your Retrofit folder (the one with Mongolphobia) to Retrofit2, and rename the original folder (Retrofit1) back to Retrofit. That way the game will read your original Retrofit without any additions. It is a bit primitive method but works like a charm.

Ask me if there was a snag.

ok thanks.

Edit: somehow it still recognized the file because it told me that retrofit is already installed and it asked if i wanted to just repair it instead. im not sure if i renamed the right file, C:/Program Files/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/mods/retrofit , is this right? if it isn't then which file is it? (and yes that is the folder i installed M2TW in)

Oops, then I think I was mistaken.

I think what you need to change is not the folder's name but the name of the .bat file inside it. You can try it, but remember to back up the original .bat file first.

Once I get home from work I will see to it myself.

Yes, rename the folder of retrofit (mods/retrofit) to retrofit1. Go to the .bat file, open with notepad and change it to mods/retrofit1, before making sure your shortcut points to that .bat file instead of the retrofit (numberless) folder.

Make sure that works. Should be fine.

Then go to the installation thing for retrofit. When it detects it's already been installed, keep going regardless. 'Repair' I believe means 'adding in/overwriting missing/different files'- since you're missing an entire folder, it's basically reinstalling.

Voila.
