Parthia

The Parthians are a nomadic people who conquered and settled in the area near the Caspian Sea in the 4th century BC as part of the Dahae confederation. Since that time the Parthians, under their Arsacid rulers (named after King Arsaces I), have fiercely maintained their independence. The Seleucids have, from time to time, claimed to be the overlords of Parthia and, from time to time, have actually been strong enough to try and enforce their claim, but the Parhians outlived them and without the shadow of the seleucids, have become the dominant power in the region.

The Parthias are alrady a big empire, but have the potential to be a great one, as they sit close to or astride the main trade routes from the east to the Mediterranean. The wealth of the world flows through these lands: a fortune that could pay for any army that an ambitious king could imagine. This wealth is there for the taking, for the people with the will to stretch out their hands and grasp it.

The Parthians now stand in the backdoors of the Roman borders and must decide whether they will do war against the heirs of Romulus or turn their armies in another direction.

A big thank you for the Europa Barbarorum team who kindly allowed me to use their models for the horses of the Cataphracts, Parthian Nobles and Median Cavalry as well as their model for the Indian Longbowmen.

New units may be added. I'm thinking about another regional type of infantry because I fear the infantry choices may be too weak.

Hey, this looks good. Also, if you have Alexander, there's this great unit called Immortals that you could use. They're green though, so maybe you could change their colour to purple?

Micky, thanks for your suggestion, but Immortals were used by the persian dinasties, not the Arsacide, that's why I did not include them.

Thank you, Matt

And they featured more in the Iranian armies of the Sassanid period than Parthian.

Profile Picture, I said I might add a Sassanid type of infantry. The Sassanids were one of the many tribes the Parthians ruled, so it would fit.

Erzin, I can't say for sure yet. The ammount of work I do on the mod varies according to the ammount of work I have to at the moment so it's a little unpredictable.

I don't know how historically accurate you are trying to be, but you could have dismounted cataphracts or something like that.

I'm more with a fanatical barbarian unit near the black sea or a heavy asian unit near the settlements close to the edge of the map.

Well ninjas would more or less be like arcani and like arcani would be able to hide anywhere, scare the shit out of enemy troops and look bad ass but would have the exact same flaw as the arcani. They weren't really that strong and couldn't or actually fight nor hold a certain position for more then about a minute. It wouldn't resolve the problem Parthia is going to face, no infantry worth jack shit for the later part of the game.

Plus Japan is a little to far away. Although if they were a pricey mercenary unit that had some special abilities then my dear god ninjas could rule the world coupled with a fanatical barbarian unit. But the initial thought of a suped up unit coming from the far east is a good idea.............

Sorry to dissapoint you, but Ninjas won't be added. I think you all know why <:

Eastern Axemen will actually be a very good unit, so the "parthia doesn't have any good infantry" idea is not quite true. Of course, they are not as good as legionaries, for example, but they are though men from the hills with the ability to warcry.

The axemen will be a good unit but what Parthia needs is another infantry unit that can be used as a line. I've played with the Germans a couple of times and I can't hold a line with axemen regardless of how much cavalry I have. Please Neo_deus if you care about the quality of Parthia you will at lest give them a heavy phalanx unit seeing they were conquered by Alexander. Please.

No ninjas and no gunpowder.

Having a cavalry unit dismounted is not such a good idea because the parthian warfare relied either on the speed and maneuverability of their light horsemen or on the powerfull shock of their heavy horsemen. A dismounted unit of any of those kinds would not have neither the speed or the shock power expected from their mounted counterparts.
Parthia is not supposed to have infantry capable of holding on against heavier types of infantry just like other factions don't have the missile or cavalry power to hold against the parthians. Each faction will have their highs and lows and must be able to win like that.

Great units here. I still prefer the Galdiators though.

I would have thought the phalanx would be a good idea, but I guess this is Parthia... I would probably only give them three infantry units: peasants, speramen and axemen.

Anyway, good job.
