This is my first post and it is about the Scottish faction. This is how I played the campaign but of course this is not the only way to play it. I hope people will enjoy it and maybe get them to start a game with the Scottish as it is a really cool faction.
When the game begins I moved some units out of Edinburgh and moved them to the army in the north and laid siege to Inverness. The other army I used to assault York. York fell and I started work on the wall to upgrade the settlement. When Inverness fell I changed it to be a town and started to upgrade that as well. The first thing I did was to build the Town Watch in both conquered settlements so I could build a garrison. When that was done I moved my Inverness army toward Dublin to take that one. I also made sure that a town watch was built there and after that I moved the army toward Caernarvon. I took on Caernarvon which quickly fell. In the mean time I trained my spy and moved him into London. When Caernarvon had a Town Watch and garrison I moved the army towards Nottingham. In York I built a ballista (first the siege building off course) and added it to the army that was on route to Nottingham. The army that was still in York moved toward London and I hoped the English would attack me so I wasn’t the aggressor. They didn’t, unfortunately, and I decided to be the aggressor. My diplomat had arrived in France and I quickly entered an alliance with them to put pressure on the English. I assaulted both English settlements at the same time and because there was a ballista in the Nottingham army and a spy in London, that opened the door, I captured both settlements in the same turn I declared war on England. Both settlements were under-garrisoned because France was laying siege on Caen and the English moved all of their units to the mainland. Because there were no generals in Caen this became a rebel settlement and the English were no more.
After the British Islands were under Scottish rule I took a few turns to build up the economy. Mines in Dublin, markets and ports everywhere. After a while France entered in a war with Milan and hadn’t captured Caen yet. I had retrained the army that conquered the whole of Britain and shipped them to Caen which they captured. They then moved to Rennes to assert that settlement to the Scottish throne. Having a city and a castle on the mainland I quickly built them up. I had an army of spies and assassins and after Milan took Paris I made sure they weren’t keeping on to it. I had five spies there and my assassins destroyed the abbey, town hall, town watch, brothel. It rebelled and after that I was quick to move in. I applied the same tactic to Reims, which was also captured by Milan and that was a succesfull undertaking as well. They tried to take it back but were not successful. After two turns they realized not to mess with the Scottish and asked for a truce and for me to give them Rheims back. What were they thinking!? I countered offered them a truce in exchange for Dijon and the offer was generous. They accepted and after having a truce with Milan I started focussing on Bruges. It was still Rebel so that wasn’t any problem and I quickly build a brothel there to send spies to Antwerp to pressure the Danes and not have them attack Bruges.
And so I entered a time of peace. I built an army of spies and assassins and trained them to perfection. I took out a lot of Milanese family members so they were hindered in their aggressive conquering. They didn’t bother (so far) to attack me again or to retake any city that once was theirs. I also made sure Genoa rebelled so they had to focus their attention there. The Danes are currently my first objective because they have attacked Bruges. It is my top priority right now to make sure Antwerp rebels so they are pushed back. France is still my ally as I keep them happy with the occasional florins. The papacy is also one of my allies and they are kept happy in the same way I do with the French, cold hard cash. I have started to send spies and assassins toward Marseille to get that to rebel so I can take it without having to go to war with France.
The wheels are set in motion and I will keep you posted on any advancements I make.
