Welcome, traveller, to Land of Albion: Total War. This mod covers England, Scotland and Wales from 100BC to 60AD. If you wish to help, head to the recruiting & personnel thread. We will have 1 thread to mapping, art, soundtrack and coding. All these threads are to remain open at all times. Each faction will have a thread, and these will also remain open, as there is no need to restrict our work.

It is for M2TW kingdoms version 1.5

21 factions in total, 17 playable.

Units.
The emphasis is to be accuracy, and ahistorical units, like the head-throwing dudes in the vanilla RTW, have no place in this mod. The main weapons were spear and shield, with most carrying javelins as well. Archers are rare, specialised units, missile will be mostly slingers. Cavalry should be in all factions, with Chariots more common in British forces.

Recruitment will be in a barracks and a chariot builders, merging several chains of construction into 1. The first few buildings will be levies, and then unlocking more elite warrior units later on

In 43AD, when the empire invades, a Marian Reforms-esque event should unlock guerilla-themed units.

� Cultures
Brythonic/Pictish is not really the way to go. Barry Cunliffe (and I) would advise a Southeastern culture (the Southeast, an arc from Hampshire to Norfolk - oppida and unfortified villages), Peripheral Zone culture (basically West Country and Midlands - a few hillforts governing surrounding farms), and a Subsistence Farming Economy culture (Cornwall, Devon, Wales and everything to the North). You could divide this last one into Pictish/British variants.

That's the archaeological reality of it anyway. Using that system might allow you to get a bit closer to how it actually was. I'll try and post a map to show what Zi mean.

� Troop types
The Britons definitely did use lots of cavalry as well as chariots. There is plenty of documentary evidence (Caesar, Tacitus, Vindolanda letters) and archaeological (specific kinds of horse tackle) to prove this beyond question. You are right that they didn't use bows in war, steer well clear of them.

It might be an idea to distinguish two "grades" of infantry for the barbarians: tribal levies and warriors. It was a significant class distinction.

That should be enough to be going on with.

Right, thank you. Your cultures seem like the right way to go, so I'll edit the OP accordingly. I have also put the Corieltauvi in with the peripheral, because they were very agricultural, but beyond subsistence farming, in that they had a lot of trade and a currency system

That's right, sorry I should have been more specific.

The Carvetii and Damnonii should in Brythonic subsistence, not Pictish; I was thinking you would use yhe Pictish culture to show buildings like brochs and duns, and the Carvetii and Damnonii had more in common with the more Southern tribes in that sense. Also, the Uotadini have a more interesting history than the Damnonii, and an awesome mediaeval Welsh epic poem to boot (which I am trying to memorise

). I would use the Votadini not the Damnonii if I were you.

Catuvellauni should be in the Southeastern culture, they were very much a part of what Barry Cunliffe calls the "core zone".
