PC Gamer has just released a new article titled: Total War Rome 2 Preview - Ambush and Betrayal in the Ancient World RTS. Most of the information is stuff we're already familiar with, but it's nice to see them go into a bit of detail with regards to the new UI and campaign decisions.

This, then, is the final way in which the precedents set by the Teutoburg scenario feed into the campaign as a whole. When betrayal is nigh-inevitable, the freedom to make choices – where to fight, who to trust – is essential. As well as representing Varus’s actions literally, Creative Assembly want to give the player freedom to dig a similar hole for themselves. “The more reversible a decision is, the less of a decision it was,” is how Russell puts it. “If a decision has no consequence, it wasn’t really a decision.”I've always followed the 'house rule' of no reloading a previous save after a bad defeat or a sudden invasion, unless I come across a CTD, so the fact that they're stressing this point and making political and military decisions count for a lot in Rome 2 is very exciting, especially how key events will reward unique technologies and other benefits. Perhaps we'll have a chance to fund the projects of a certain Archimedes or a young and adventurous geographer name Eratosthenes.
