okay i know there's a bug thread, but i didnt post there because i dont really care about find out how to have this bug fixed (i think that would be fairly simple really, im running rtw super-vanilla), i just wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this!
i was the defender, with large stone walls. and you know how the siege towers have like a little pillbox-looking thing on top? well as one approached my walls, ballista bolts starting pouring out of it, like a rope of spears. the rate of fire was faster than the repeating ballista, and it only stopped firing once it reached the wall. the damage was more like an autocannon, it annihilated a unit of 50 archers in seconds! it was crazy!
has anyone else seen this?!?!?

Actually, this is supposed to happen. Siege towers, especially the larger ones, do massive ranged damage to defenders on the walls. The largest one (built when facing epic stone walls) do splash damage and pierce through soldiers, killing 3, 4 or more soldiers per hit.
I use this as a tactic when I have an army with a lot more infantry than archers. Build 8 or 10 towers and put them in a straight line in front of the wall. Set them to fire at will and the defenders will be decimated. Now it's easy to send one tower to the wall and capture the gatehouse.

Another annoying bug is that the unit is in the siegetower but doesn't want to climb up. That way I lost half of my standing army (1 spartan and 4 armoured hoplites).
Good thing most of my spartans got through.

Btw, Roman faction leaders are seriously overpowered. They were with 60, they walked right into my phalanx of armoured hoplites (at the front) and they only lost 8 men and destroyed my hoplites. I mean seriously, some bunch of cavalry walks into my wall of spears and wins?

Maybe I should clarify a bit.
When I said that I lost half of my standing army, I meant that I couldn't use them. They all survived (they were lazy but lucky).
I also didn't give mixed orders, the order was very simple. Storm that wall, it was too difficult for them.
And when they were confused, they didn't listen very well. I tried to get them out of the towers (more than one time) but they keep dancing at the bottom.
The funny part was that some men (1 or 2) were smart and managed to get on the wall (with the siege tower still closed on the top) and they captured the surrounding towers. The bad news was that they bugged the entire unit, by standing on the wall...
Oh well, atleast I won the battle and destroyed the Brutii faction.

I've had that tower shuffle bug, too. The entire unit crowded into the entry of the tower and just clogged it up, milling about endlessly and maybe one soldier would get to the top of the wall every 5 minutes. There was no tower redirection confusion. Halting the unit and ordering them away (out to the grassy field) didn't help.
I tried toughing out the battle, but i needed BOTH towers to succeed to take the huge garrisons on the wall top, so i reloaded the save file from before the attack, tried again. The same thing happened with the same tower. It's never happened before or since, so it's an odd rare bug.
