Topic Subject: Shogun 2 Swap Game Anyone?
« Previous Page  1 2  Next Page »
posted 07 June 2012 00:02 EDT (US)
Rome and Medieval 2 both have own community binders, so why not Shogun 2 I say. So would anyone per chance be interested in participating in a Shogun 2 swap game? Of which the particular campaign and clan played would be decided by community consensus (voting).

So hopefully with a bit of luck we might be able to get something rolling.

Edit #1:
Swap Game Player Roster:
  • Scipii
  • srlj3721
  • Enemy of Jupitor
  • Scenter102

    Possible Future Players:
  • BastWorshiper (Technical Issue)

Save games can be accessed, I've tested these things out to make sure they work. Takes a bit more effort then RTW and M2TW saves, but they are accessible.

I'll post up a step by step guide to accessing save games later.

Last time anyone talked of these was Liam. We both tested a bunch of saves, and unfortunately they didn't work.

But if you've found a way to access saves, then that would be great!

I remember assisting with that too. One thing I learnt was that if anyone wants to participate in a Swap Game playing as a LE\DLC Clan they have to own that DLC, otherwise the save game doesn't work for them at all. I haven't experienced any issues with save games that can't be put down to "you need a certain DLC" or something similar yet.

Yes, that's correct. The saves we tested were of the Hattori and Ikko Ikki DLC and the Limited Edition. The other Shimazu save didn't work because my version of the game was not up-to-date.

Now, everything has its ups and downs.

If we stop and build up - We give time to our enemies to conquer other rich provinces, meanwhile we keep building up our infrastructure. In the end, we WILL fall deep in debt and our income wont keep up with our expenses. I played a Shimazu game once. Built a massive and unstoppable army of Matchlocks and Samurai, and captured The Black Ship. Conquered the Island, and built everything there is to build. Then I went for Kyoto, and conquered it. After becoming Shogun, I became so close to being Bankrupt that I was forced to disband a large number of units back home. After that, I was ZERGED. Coastal invasions, Foreign Trade Ports' attacks, Sieges, you name it.

If we continue attacking - We have a better chance of survival. More opportunities with each conquest, and that won't give time for our enemies to build up. In short, this is the best option, in my opinion anyways.

Otherwise, we could build up and wait till the end date, then all those massive empires disintegrate and become small one-state nations. Would be pretty easy to conquer everything by then. But before the end-date, we must achieve the position of Shogun.

We'll likely start voting on the 13th if no one else registers interest, though at the moment it might be more like a bi-partisanship mutual agreement. I'll be acting as Swap Master, and depending on who wants to go first we'll try to start as soon as possible after conclusion of voting.

I'd like to play if I can get Shogun 2 to work. I just uninstalled again, and I'll try to reinstall from the disc. Maybe I can get it to work, this time.

As I remember the save games may be stored in different places, depending on your OS.

Well if no one else, at present, feels like tipping their hat in we shall get down to voting. If we get things successfully off the ground people might feel like taking part later on anyhow.

So without further delay, it is time we got down to coming to a consensus on which campaign, clan and difficulty we are going to play on. Shogun 2 seems to be a popular option ahead of Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai, possibly due to the slightly ambiguous thread title.

We can vote on choice of campaign if people want, or we get straight in to deciding our Clan and Difficulty Level.

Assuming we do delve straight in to Shogun 2's campaign our clan options are:
  • Oda
  • Shimazu
  • Mori
  • Tokugawa
  • Takeda
  • Uesugi
  • Date
  • Chosokabe
  • Hattori (TW:S2 Limited Edition or Hattori Clan Pack DLC required)
  • Ikko Ikki (Ikko Ikki Clan Pack Required)
  • Hojo

    While our difficulty options are:
  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Very Hard
  • Legendary

I'll cast my vote later once I've had a bit of a think about what I want to vote for.

Considering Takeda are one of the few clans I have yet to seriously play a campaign with yet they sound like a good option.

    So Takeda, and Hard difficulty.

    Provisional Vote Count:
  • Takeda - 2
  • Hard - 2

We could continue with the swap game idea and hope people join when things get rolling. Or, as you suggested, we could just run a dual AAR, a tale of two clans.

Let me know what you want to do and we can go from there, and likely get a game going quite soon.

since we are both in australia i think we could do a duel AAR
But i could only do it on a 1 week on 1 week off if your okay with that then i think that would be good

if so maybe a new thread and a descion of vs or coop

Awesome, back the original plan then. Anyone got any specific preferences for when they want to go based on when they are free to play? I have no qualms playing first, second, or third to fit others in.

These rules, usually used in other TWH swap games, sound good for a start?

-You have a maximum of 10 turns of gameplay per turn
-Once the save is sent to you, you have 3 days to at least tell us you've received it and are playing, or you will be skipped
-You have up to 7 days to complete your turns. After this time the save shall be forwarded on to someone else. If you advise me prior, this can be extended up to 10 days.

Hmm. I'll try with the 7 day deadline- hopefully I'll be organised enough.

However, just remembered the last week of july and the first two of august I'm actually computer-less. Er, can we work round this?

Eh I'm sure we could flex the boundaries and be flexible to everyone needs if need be. For example, if you (EoJ) are computerless for the last week of July and first two weeks of August we could hold over your turn. Then later and you could have a 20 turn marathon or something as part of a later swap turn...

So the general swap order for the first four weeks to fit in with everyone's schedule could be something like:

    -srlj3721
    -EoJ
    -Srlj3721
    -Scipii
    -Srlj3721
    -EoJ

Turns are stacked slightly in the favour of Srlj3721, but it would be easier to go with the whole week on week off thing with four players compared to three. Who knows we might make the turns up down the track somewhere if Srlj3721 gets busy unexpectedly anyhow.

If we are all cool with that though then I'll prep Srlj3721 for starting on this friday, since that was be a free day no? (Yes still Takeda, Hard)
