i think that the diplomicy should be redone, like sometimes i talk to a faction for the first time and they say "we cannot trust wat u say, for u have been false in the past" and i'm just like screw u! and kill them. also there should be more "gifts" rather than just provinces money and espionage there should be things like offering ur daughter to them, i believe this happened many times in anceint history with factions that want to make peace. or maybe more direct commands, like "help me defend rome or attack Memphis rather than just attack faction or something. also . . . um i leave the rest u you people. :P

I agree.

There are several discrepancies in diplomacy. The makers of R:TW ought to fix that.

With regards to what you said about offering your daughter, it would be intersting to see factions "unite."

i would like to see the maraige thing again, like in MTW where you would marry your daughter to a prince and if the faction died out you get some land or w/e that would be cool..

you should be able to give your protectorates orders like the senate. And you should be able to tell them what they should do (militairy policy, ...)

Quoted from Myself:

I think diplomats should be able to recruit mercenaries from other provinces, which then go to your capital or wherever. This would allow you to recruit mercenaries from an ally's territory, without offending them by sending a family member marching through their lands.

That's what assassins are for. You should be able to capture them and take them hostage if they approach a family member, though. Or capture enemy family members and offer them back for ransom. That'd be pretty cool, but they'd have to make it hard to do. Maybe it could only be your faction leader and heir that does it.

Yes, diplomacy is quite poor in RTW. What there should be, is a permenant peace where when you sign a ceasefire with an enemy, you sign for a certain period. If you break the agreement, then nobody will sign a ceasefire with you. That way I don't just demandr 30000 denarii off the Seleucids, whose capital and final city I am besieging, and then just attack again.

And yes, Protectocates are useless in RTW, if a faction becomes your protectocate in RTW, they can cancel it any time. you should be allowed to have some deterrant, like demanding hostages from their faction families as signs of good will and good faith.

Thats a good idea, maybe if you "kill" the family member's unit in a battle you get the option of taking the family member hostage at the end of the battle or, instead, execute him.

I reckon they should make it so if you are carrying a diplomat around with your army so that when you beseige a castle you can send in your diplomat and demand they give up or give you money so you wont attacl them that would be cool
