Hotseat game status: - Sicily has won on turn 115

Players (in turn order): (with links to write-ups) plus some other links where I consider it to be funny

Selifator: England
Kilij Ae Varyl: Spain

Venice - FACTION DESTROYED

Me Sicily

EoJ: Turks
I think I might have referenced this video before in the first crusade
This might be more appropriate... Looks like I was right there

Rankings - Turn 101

Rankings - Turn 69

Subs
Glacier_Girl played as sub for England - T29, T30
- played as sub for Sicily - T33

Monty501 played as sub for Spain T30, T 31
JuBuOrangie played as sub for Venice - T31 to T40
Lloydsgamble played as sub for Venice T41 to 42
Brutiangodofrock played as sub for Venice T43 to T65
Zsmart one played as sub for Turks T50 to T65
Hashoosh played as sub for Turks T64

Rules to note:

No 'exploiting' of any kind (e.g. putting forts on resources and stocking them with merchants) nor reloading your go to get a better result.

If I don't hear from a player within 4 days of receiving a turn, I will try to find a sub to take the turn.

If you don't expect to be able to play within 4 days, just let me know - extensions are fine (preferably not too often though please). I'll send a reminder email after a couple of days as a prompt.

If you expect an extended absence, e.g. not being able to play for over a week, you're invited to arrange a sub, giving them instructions etc so your turn is played as you'd like it to be.

An 'un-arranged' sub has the option to take over after 2 weeks or 10 turns The '2 weeks' here looks a little low, but the turn limit looks high?

Hoppylyte, you were in the list of subs I think and as you've mentioned it - you'll get to take the first England turn if there's still no response from Son of Ra.

I've had it kindly pointed out to me that in post 42 of this thread I suggested a 4 day window for people's turns. That gives Son of Ra until the end of tomorrow (saturday) to take his turn before I can pass the save on to Hoppylyte.

Sorry for the delay in getting this off the ground.

Is 4 days of no contact excessive? If we have mutual agreement then something shorter (unless there's prior notice) could be reasonable.

The instructions from the sticky should be all you need - it's messier for Vista users as there's a 'virtual store' or some such to contend with. Basically you need to put the save file into the 'Save' folder of the retrofit mod (M2 folder / Mods/ Retrofit/save)

Just for clarification, you already made the save game for it and I don't need to start it myself then right? And also, should I document what I do on the campaign and post it on a thread or is that unneeded? One more question, what email should I email it to in the event that Ra isn't able to finish his turn? Sorry about all the questions, I'm still sort of new to these swap/hotseat campaigns.

For clarification - I've already made the game so you wouldn't need to set it up, however as noone has taken a turn yet there'd be no real difference.

There's no need to document your turns per say - however it would be nice to have a thread each. Several people have said that the war stories forum would be best - but if you have such a thread make sure its clear on the title so that other players don't look. i.e. I wouldn't want to find out about a cunning plan to destroy Sicily unfairly by reading it on the forum.

Everyone playing has their email addresses available on the forum somewhere, once the turn is ended then it shows the screen for the next player to take their turn. I can't remember the exact order, but if it said "Spain - turn 1" after England's go then you'd check here, see that EoJ is Spain and email him the game (with a copy going to me for safe keeping).

"i.e. I wouldn't want to find out about a cunning plan to destroy Sicily unfairly by reading it on the forum."

Dammit Swamprat you've seen through my plan!

I've already made a thread for my campaign and made sure I don't spill any information in the first paragraph, that way no one can find out your plans

sorry to be the one to tell you this Adam but we're no longer taking on any more player (unless the host decides otherwise) as the game has started.

But if you talk to Swamprat you might be able to be a sub for someone who misses their go.

Hey swamp, you mind emailing me the save file? Thanks. Also, who should I send my password to?
posted 18 January 2009 06:34 EDT (US)     59 / 1439
Thanks Hunterufus, I'll update the opening post to make it clear that we're full for players but people can be subs if they're keen

I've emailed the save to Hoppylyte.

I think it'd be fair if Son of Ra is back in contact within the lower of two weeks and 10 turns then he can choose to take over the England seat or to let Hoppylyte continue. After either 10 turns or two weeks Hoppylyte would become the formal England player.

What does anyone think of the principle (i.e. that Son of Ra should be able to resume his position within a certain time frame) and of the times I picked (fairly randomly). The fact that Son of Ra hasn't got to take a go could be a factor too (i.e. maybe the time should be shorter than if we lose contact with someone mid-game).

He probably has no idea that this is even going on as his last post was weeks ago. I think that next time we should pass it on to Son of Ra for 2 days at the least and if he doesn't respond, pass it on to Hoppylyte and have him take over the campaign.

Good to hear back from you Son of Ra, I hope you didn't mind us starting with out you.

Hoppylyte has taken the first England turn now, I believe that EoJ has the save as the next player.

Son of Ra, is your computer ready to run m2tw again or do you want to sit out a turn or two?

Hoppylyte, thanks for stepping into the breach, if Son of Ra is back now then it seems sensible to have him take then England turns again though as the original player.

Apologies if this has been a bit of a messy start.

Edit - Oh and clarification of what I'd meant in the previous post, as far as I'm concerned, once a sub has needed to take a go due to the official player going 'missing' then all future goes for that faction are taken by the sub until the player resurfaces. Does that make any sense?

Here that made no difference as Son of Ra appears to be back to take go 2 when the time comes.

Alright, I'll just email Ra with my supah totally awesome plan to destroy sicily then. :P Seeing as there's so much intrest in doing a MTW2 hotseat campaign, do y'all mind me starting another ones for the people who got left out of this one?

I'm glad the game started without a hitch. I think i am ready to come back into the rotation and I'll keep you guys informed regarding my computers ability to play. Hopplyte I would love to consult you regarding English strategy, and I thank you for your help. With your help I think a new English empire will arise.

Oh yeah, seeing as you are the new English Imperator, I suggest you update the English thread in the Warstory section of the forums when it's your turn again.

Hoppylyte - that sounds a good plan, I hope you you manage to get it together nicely. Err, that was about the second hotseat game not about destroying Sicily...

Sorry for the lack of updates - there is indeed a delay for the next turn.

EoJ has been trying to deal with a trojan (I'll refrain from making comments about his website viewing habits, but only because I've sort of made one here). If I hear back from him saying that he'll take more than a couple more days to sort it then I'll start arranging another sub asap - otherwise we'll wait until the 4th day is up as before. If we're lucky then everything will be sorted before that.

This game appears jinxed so far...

Damn Trojans and their viruses that are NOT horse-shaped!

Yes the game is Jinxed! And we're probably get another problem like us all being wiped out in the first few turns.
I don't mind waiting as long as we know whats going on and we have a little contact.

Err, no, to be honest it's on medium difficulty - I hope the AI in retrofit is reasonable enough to not just roll over. whatever happens the other human players are the more interesting part.

EoJ emailed me again (posting here would have been mildly more useful) and expects to be able to pass the save on very soon. Which is good.
