Hotseat game status: - Sicily has won on turn 115

Players (in turn order): (with links to write-ups) plus some other links where I consider it to be funny

Selifator: England
Kilij Ae Varyl: Spain

Venice - FACTION DESTROYED

Me Sicily

EoJ: Turks
I think I might have referenced this video before in the first crusade
This might be more appropriate... Looks like I was right there

Rankings - Turn 101

Rankings - Turn 69

Subs
Glacier_Girl played as sub for England - T29, T30
- played as sub for Sicily - T33

Monty501 played as sub for Spain T30, T 31
JuBuOrangie played as sub for Venice - T31 to T40
Lloydsgamble played as sub for Venice T41 to 42
Brutiangodofrock played as sub for Venice T43 to T65
Zsmart one played as sub for Turks T50 to T65
Hashoosh played as sub for Turks T64

Rules to note:

No 'exploiting' of any kind (e.g. putting forts on resources and stocking them with merchants) nor reloading your go to get a better result.

If I don't hear from a player within 4 days of receiving a turn, I will try to find a sub to take the turn.

If you don't expect to be able to play within 4 days, just let me know - extensions are fine (preferably not too often though please). I'll send a reminder email after a couple of days as a prompt.

If you expect an extended absence, e.g. not being able to play for over a week, you're invited to arrange a sub, giving them instructions etc so your turn is played as you'd like it to be.

An 'un-arranged' sub has the option to take over after 2 weeks or 10 turns The '2 weeks' here looks a little low, but the turn limit looks high?

Just marking my territory.
Fantastic, I've always wondered what it's like to be peed on.

I'd imagine that the player after you assassinate the Pope gets to vote. So, England, fire away

Quick observations on the ranking scrolls- Venice and Turkey, especially the former, have plummeted on the production, but have seen steady gain in military. Sicily and England still seem to be limbering up for something- do you four know something that I don't?
Financially, I see England is investing heavily, while Turkey, Venice and Sicily both seem to have shrunk economically- Venice and Turkey I can understand as they are supposed to be at war, but Sicily?
Overall, Venice has sharply dipped, while Turkey is starting to decline recently. England is level, while Spain appears to be on the ascendency, due to become a world power by, oh, turn 50?

Before I answer that, could you let me know if you've spotted the full stacks I've got off of your south and east coasts, or England's off the north and west coasts please?

I assume my sub for both hotseats is Glacier Gal?

Save sent to Selifator. You can still play one turn right?

@Selifator, yes

Think you're a hotshot against the Mongols? Go to the Mongolphobia mod discussions and download the mod, then, you will surely tremble with fear in the face of the Mongols. If you have suggestions/questions, feel free to make a thread. You can download Mongolphobia here. Good luck.

Might I ask Venice not to send my dear friend England a false accusation that my other friend Sicily paid them to kill the Pope? This is an obvious attempt to try and push the three of us apart in order to break us into more manageable chunks, and I will call out any such attempt in future.

Pfft, Europeans. Always scheming and plotting against each other or accusing each other of plotting and scheming against each other. Why not let your army do the talking?

That pigeon might've been shot down, after all, it is pigeon hunting season you know?

If you already sent the email, I haven't gotten it.

Glacy, you don't know how prophetic your comment was just now. Seriously.

Anyway, to make things a bit clearer allow me to show you this.

Gonzolia?

Isnt that Palermo?
posted 02 August 2009 04:28 EDT (US)     464 / 1439
Yes, that place was used to be known as Palermo, until the Mad King Simon of Sicily decided to rename it, much to the outrage of his subjects.

Anyway, you can edit the names of the settlements in Retrofit Mod so that's why the confusion.

You're supposed to be at war with Venice, yet you're calling a jihad against Sicily. Why don't you have a straight out war, instead of what appears to be scheming with Venice? I haven't seen loss or gain of territory for either side in this so-called war you had.

Of course, England and Spain will stand by Sicily. It's lucky I've got a full stack in the area, isn't it?

Ahh the moment we've all been waiting for. Oh, I mean argh what a surprise. I forgot myself briefly. It's clearly not a good thing for Sicily, but I'll try to make a reasonable stand of it.

Hopefully Hoppy isn't too daft to see that having a strong Turkish presence on the south of the map as well as the east isn't too good for his long term plans.

Gonzolia was thus named in honour of the noble king of Spain (plainly obvious really?) on the occasion of the double marriage alliance. The citizens were far from outraged, indeed the vast majority rated having the city name changed more favourable then having their knee-caps removed.

In the future, would everyone agree that it's a reasonable idea to announce jihads/crusades immediately? The game in single-player (or hotseat where you don't have to save, close, email save game, reopen (i.e. it's on one computer and played without delay)) it gives you a notification of them at the turn start (because they're important) but like the building notifications etc we can't see it due to the way we're playing. People can say "no" here, I'm asking rather than telling...

Quite, and much in the same manner Toledo is called El Citadel de Rodrigo, or something similar.

On a different note, Zargzoa or whatever is called Ziggy Stardust.

Quite. Makes me wonder what he's playing at, really.

EDIT: Hold it, Bandito's got an agent in south Italy, which is why we can see the watchtower there. You might want to check that out, Swampy.

I am having a straight out war, and there are certain things % #$%9(_#'% @#$ +|^%$ now.
I haven't seen loss or gain of territory for either side in this so-called war you had.
You haven't been paying attention recently then. What I wanted to say was that yes, territory did change hands by force.

Hell, it was all I could do to pass the save last night before I passed out from the drinks. Gimme some credit for announcing it when I came to.
Ahh the moment we've all been waiting for. Oh, I mean argh what a surprise.
The whole operation actually went better than I expected, but worse than I hoped--like everything else in life. Only thing left is to reap what I've sown.

Mostly, I was bored. (all the city building and crowd pleasing is nice but such stuff effeminates you--yeah, I like verbing non-verbs) See, you just can't have a bored Mongol around you. Last time when a Mongol got bored...

I do give you credit for announcing it - I was just wondering if it was worth adding as a rule, some less scrupulous than yourself may have kept quiet and seen how long they could get away undetected for.
It's sort of a tricky one as noone should necessarily know who called the crusade/jihad but everyone ought to somehow be informed. It's a shame that they didn't just make it so that the 'start of turn' messages repeat every time you load up a save - or better still put in some sort of state to let it be saved before the turn starts rather than just putting a password screen over the other one.

Since Selifator missed the quote I tried to set up, it's one I like but probably isn't famous:
The pope may be French Sicilian, but Jesus was English...
posted 02 August 2009 08:17 EDT (US)     470 / 1439
Actually the only person who might get away with not announcing is the first player--in this case, England, because the first player should see the announcement for Jihad or Crusade every-time he loads the game.
Tribute to England on its way.

Who said anything about Sicily paying me to get his Cardinal elected as Pope? Swampy won't even give me a small loan of 250 florins in exchange for 50 florins over 4 turns much less give me 2k to kill someone. Pity about the papal elections be automatic though it would've been oh so useful to squeeze florins out of you guys.

I've sent the save on, complete with reports of dead floating camals all over the mediterranean. I'm sure EoJ will see that the war between Venice and the Turks is a real one. Big dip in military for bandito next turn, unless his Economy really is as big as he promises.

Merciful Allah, you mean all my SIX stacks are swimming with the fishes along with about FOURTEEN Dhows?! Well, it was a risk I had to take, since Venice controlled the sea.

PS: Good thing I have a "worst case scenario" mentality. Even with the death of 80% of my forces, my lands will not be easily taken.

PPS: Tribute proposals on the way to Sicily when I get the save.

I didn't go as far as to sink six stacks, but I've sunk 3 stacks. The other 3 stacks? Let's just say they should be quivering in their sandals at the threat of fighting Doge Dominico the Malevolent.
