Hotseat game status: - Sicily has won on turn 115

Players (in turn order): (with links to write-ups) plus some other links where I consider it to be funny

Selifator: England
Kilij Ae Varyl: Spain

Venice - FACTION DESTROYED

Me Sicily

EoJ: Turks
I think I might have referenced this video before in the first crusade
This might be more appropriate... Looks like I was right there

Rankings - Turn 101

Rankings - Turn 69

Subs
Glacier_Girl played as sub for England - T29, T30
- played as sub for Sicily - T33

Monty501 played as sub for Spain T30, T 31
JuBuOrangie played as sub for Venice - T31 to T40
Lloydsgamble played as sub for Venice T41 to 42
Brutiangodofrock played as sub for Venice T43 to T65
Zsmart one played as sub for Turks T50 to T65
Hashoosh played as sub for Turks T64

Rules to note:

No 'exploiting' of any kind (e.g. putting forts on resources and stocking them with merchants) nor reloading your go to get a better result.

If I don't hear from a player within 4 days of receiving a turn, I will try to find a sub to take the turn.

If you don't expect to be able to play within 4 days, just let me know - extensions are fine (preferably not too often though please). I'll send a reminder email after a couple of days as a prompt.

If you expect an extended absence, e.g. not being able to play for over a week, you're invited to arrange a sub, giving them instructions etc so your turn is played as you'd like it to be.

An 'un-arranged' sub has the option to take over after 2 weeks or 10 turns The '2 weeks' here looks a little low, but the turn limit looks high?

Treachery!

You can't say that civilization don't advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way.

Chauvinism is not a particularly nice trait at the best of times but can be suicidal when the person your talking too can have you executed on a whim.

Facebook, anyone?

That does not mean treachery. I just only attack computer opponents at the present moment.

JuBu, I think I like you very much.

I certainly welcome peace. Having Papal States removed will mean one less dagger when Crusade comes too.

So Sicily at the moment is Glacy, right? Did you send her the save JuBu?

I wasnt aware that the Papal states were a dagger at all I thought of them as a fat little piglet that looked for other nations to do its bidding under divine mandate. Im just the first one to realize it and now I'm going to bring that piglet to the slaughterhouse.

Yes and Yes.

Ok, your metaphors are quite, odd? Ah well, do what you like. Also, who's on the save at the moment?

More like 2/5 of a turn.

Sent to Bandito.

And Bandito, I'm going to have to ask you to remove that spy from my settlements. No, that does not mean move it to Sicily, or Corsica, or Italy or any of my settlements.

Think you're a hotshot against the Mongols? Go to the Mongolphobia mod discussions and download the mod, then, you will surely tremble with fear in the face of the Mongols. If you have suggestions/questions, feel free to make a thread. You can download Mongolphobia here. Good luck.

Sure, as long as you don't sink my ship with a diplomat on it. I will be very cross with anyone who kills my diplomats.

Sure you can blame the pirates. Doesn't stop me from making that an excuse to resume the war against whoever is at odds with me. So handle my diplomats with great care guys.

Then you wish to war with me, simple as that. Not trying to be bellicose, especially after I just made a peace deal with Venice BUT in my Mongol mindset diplomats should be inviolable.

I don't know how to attack you from my position ATM if you were the guilty party, but you can be sure you will experience discomfort.

Honestly, I can't see anyone of your stature causing my envoy any harm. Only one who did such an atrocious deed was Hoppy, south of Nuremburg, but look what happened to him.

Oh yeah, this was the gist of the peace deal between Venice and the Turks. It shall be known as the
Peace Accord of Bran.

1. Both sides will stop hostilities and be at peace--Done.

2. Turks will return Corinth and Durazzo back to Venice--Done.

3. 10000 florins will be paid to Venice--Done on this turn.

...and a few other minor details.

Quite. Other agents are fair game, but diplomats don't need to be killed unless there's a war on.

I'm afraid I'll have to crank out a diplomat at some stage to hover around Italy, as at present I am limited to in-game messages and e-mails in terms of contact- getting some hard game-engine deals would take a long time.

If I recall correctly, Chinghis Khan invaded the Khwarezms because two merchants who were under his protection got killed?

Long story short, a greedy governor of Khwaresmia Empire killed 500 merchants of Chingis Khan and took all their goods. Chingis Khan was angered and sent two Mongol envoys and a Muslim envoy to the Shah of Khwaresm and demanded that the governor should be punished. The Shah was an idiot and killed the Muslim diplomat and shaved the heads of the Mongol envoys and sent them back with the Muslim dude's head. Bad idea.
Chingis Khan respected envoys to an extent that he thinks they should not be harmed anyway, even enemy diplomats. Naturally he was outraged at the Shah's actions.

Within 3 years, the mighty Khwaresmian Empire (which was as big as the Mongol Empire and had twice as many soldiers) was annihilated and over 50% of the population were massacred. Almost no agricultural infrastructure survived and Central Asia's glory days was over. More importantly, Central Asia will become the stepping stop for the future Mongol invasions of Eastern Europe and Middle East. In a sense, the foolish Shah opened the door to the West for the Mongols.

Lesson: Don't mess with a foreign diplomat, cause that might be the beginning of an end.

Hello, I'm back, thanks Glacier Girl for standing in for me.

War on the papal states? I think we could have a quite cunning chap on our hands here (unless it back fires - I'll include the papal states on the next ranking graphs if people like).

I think it's back with Spain for turn 35, could you confirm that please?

Leaving diplomats alone seems fine in general - but could there be a valid call for 'removing' them if the aim is to prevent a certain action from occuring, such as two sides allying or calling a ceasefire etc? I'm sure that must have happened quite a bit in life. If we don't want it to happen here then I'm fine by that, but rules agreed in advance by all are probably for the best.
Similarly, if we grant this diplomatic immunity then there's got to be a limit so they can't be used as spies. To avoid that - we could set up a 'safe zone' somewhere, everyone has the right to send as many diplomats to a specific territory (say Hungry somewhere neutralish?) and have diplomats there or on their way there (directly) 'protected' and all other diplomats fair game.

Regarding diplomats--its each to his own. Deal with them however you like it. But should one of you kill my diplomat and I find out about it...

The Land of Peace will give diplomatic immunity to all envoys including those who are warring with us. For the sake of easier interaction between nations, congregate all your diplomats to Istanbul (former Constantinople) area. The place is protected by 2 of my highest ranking assassins as well as plenty of spies.
