I need help to make sure I won't ruin my game before I try doing something. Can I download three mods, to be specific, Planet War Nod, Stainless Steel and Third Age on the same computer, all most recent versions. It's a Windows 7, and I have the Kingdoms Expansion. It's also not on Steam, my Medieval 2 + Kingdoms are Amazon downloads. PLEASE REPLY BEFORE I TRY, I'M COUNTING ON PEOPLE!!!!! I've asked on countless videos on youtube.

P.S. I'm also thinking about the Divide and Conquer submod for Third Age. I figure it doesn't matter but just in case, would it?

Contact me at thomasaurus12@gmail.com if you want.

Hey,

If you use the :modswitch option, you should be able to install all three (each into its own folder) and couple each to a separate launcher.

You will not be able to play all three at the same time, however.

But you should be able to have all three installed.

If they do not come with the :modswitch option, then you would have to install three copies of Mediėval and modify each one with one mod. I know we did this with RTW, and think it will work with M2, but am not totally sure. Check for the :modswitch option.

Modswitch is a command.

For mods that use it, the mod uses a subfolder in the Data folder. In that subfolder are all the changes to the vanilla game that the mod makes. You then create a copy of the launcher icon or shortcut, and in properties, edit the target line to add :modswitch and the mod's name. The launcher then launches the game, but draws its data first from the modfolder, and the rest from the main folder.

Multiple mods can be installed at the same time, since each has its own shortcut with the target line pointing to the different modfolders.

What's the exact thing I type in to the target?

Here is everything I know about modswitch.

Medieval II came out later than Rome I, so it should work, but I make no promises.

M2TWH also has this mod portal, where you might be able to pick up more about modding M2TW.

We also have this forum where many questions have been asked.

Feel free to search through all.

____________
On a windows 7 computer would you be able to download and install and play with a mod for every persons' user without modswitch?

If you have lots of space on your hard disk, you can make copies fo vanilla Mediėval and then mod each with a different mod....

(And of course link the launchers to each individual edition)

Would you do that copy vanilla thing on the same user, that would make it easier?

I do not fully understand your question.

(Maybe it is a Windows thing)

Sorry for being rather slow to join in with replies

The modswitch plan isn't needed for Kingdoms as they introduced a system of putting all mods into their own folders so they shouldn't interfere.

Sub-mods by comparison aren't separated and you'll need to be careful about keeping back-ups of files etc in case you want to remove a sub-mod
