Empire: Total War is marching slowly towards us!

FAQ
1. Do we have a release date?
The game is currently scheduled to be out in February 2009.

2. How many factions will there be?
There will be 12 playable factions, all playable from the start. Currently confirmed factions are Britain, Prussia, France, Spain, America, Austria, the Dutch Republic and the Ottoman Empire. References to Peter the Great and Charles XII mean that Russia and Sweden are likely candidates as well. A CA developer has said:

We have over 50 factions in the game, and we can't create all of them in the full detail they deserve. Therefore we limit the number of playable factions, but we can't say which ones are playable just yet, simply because we haven't made a final decision. Rest assured though that all major factions (even the non-playable ones) will be represented in high detail.

3. Do we know system requirements? Will the game require Vista?
There are no released system requirements yet, but the game will run with DirectX 9.0, so Vista will not be a minimum requirement for the game. DX10 support is likely but not needed.

4. What period will the game cover?
Empire: Total War will cover the 18th century and the early 19th century.

5. What will the campaign map be?
The latest information suggests that it will include Europe, North and South America, North Africa, Central Asia, India, and Indonesia.

i can't wait to finally have a dutch faction! my time of hanging on germania to have something near holland is over! woohoo! (ok it is not confirmed, but i mean: 17th century?! ~~golden age!~~ that would be "gouden eeuw", of course. And on the site it shows a dutch flag and soldier!

Yep, it's true, having no sig is boring. But so is this one. Which makes my point... relatively pointless.
Can a point be a point when it is pointless?

At least you get to re-enact encounters like the battle of the Boyne.

Since they're going to feature the Commonwealth ... will they include the late 17th century Polish army (with those legendary Winged Hussars

), or will it just be the PLC of the Saxon monarchs, and maybe the Grand Duchy of Warsaw?

(Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just like the "classical" Commonwealth. Well, the chance to play it, to be more precise...

I also understand that the quality of the British Army waxed and waned during the period (like the armies of most nations, I suppose). How that could be reflected in the game, though, I have no idea.

It might be too early to determine this: How many gigabytes will this series take up?

Rome Total War roughly 3-4 gigs
Medieval 2 Total War roughly 8-12 gigs (depending on expansion)
Empire Total War?? Should I buy another hard drive just for it?

ive noticed that the Portuguese empire ahs not been included in the first 10 playable factions and to me that makes no sense Portugal kicks ass

are you Portuguese, Spanish or Brazilian? Portuguese weren't as much influential in this time-frame.

Well, it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to enhance the impact of experience in battle, and perhaps make it decline when a unit sees no action.
After all, declining army standards typically occurred during times of peace, or when a regiment was too badly battered and got in too many raw recruits.
During times of war, armies usually improved (except when suffering too heavy losses) due to seeing action.

Seems like it will be good enough, considering it's an 8800, so fairly recent.

The period Empire covers is when the British Empire started to expand.

Can't wait to form the British Empire.

Empire Total War?? Should I buy another hard drive just for it?

They might as well sell ETW on hard disks!

No, I don't realize that it is like Civilisation, it is still a TW game.

I feel the same way I did after playing Stronghold 2 for about 15 minutes, like it was my birthday and all my friends had wheeled a giant birthday cake into the room, and I was filled with hopes dreams and desires when suddenly out of the cake pops out not a beautiful buxom maid, but a cranky old hobo that just shanks me then takes $60 dollars out of my pocket and walks away saying "deal, with it".

I doubt it(and I wouldn't want it). The game engine surely coudn't do it as the style of warfare is different.

Britain would be fun to live in. dont mean to sound racist but it's annoying that there are so many "illegal immigrants" because most people in the cities dont even speak the US language.
