Also one more thing, what would be absolutely exciting would be to have the first few matches that weekend of its release, it will be crazy. Nobody really will have good strategies conjured up so it will be who ever has the better units!

Right, but I've looked into the Greta Northern War, I know how to defeat Sweden,
Through Flnking your Lines and Firing you down from a lrage hill, with a side of Infgantry charging you down... I WIN!

We shall see, I prefer to not play fighting up/down hill.

However now that there is earthworks, that might change. I always hated playing on any form of hills in RTW, but now that there is earthworks it could easily change. Certainly your calvary running into my spikes will be nice, but having my artillery batteries covered with rebouts (spell check) I won't have to worry about them as much.

Still I can use Earthworks too, Lay down on the floor on the bottom of the hill, then have my 2nd line march after them and cross through the stakes once you are occupied my 1st line will come in from the sides, and finally from the back I'll have half of the 2nd line come around and fire at youre exposed army, you'll probably break a few of them to attack me, but My cavalry will occupy them.
Enjoy your meal.

yeh something tells me most of my diploying zone will be absolutly littered with stuff
trenchs, redoubts, spikes, barricades and whatnot
i have always had fun in doing that and it also prevents them from just charging my ranks

I think because of the earth works the game change of TW will change greatly. Artillery will no longer be a useful as it once was (Onagers, trebuchets). It will be interesting as well to see what the howitzer will do to earthworks, or if earthworks will even be damaged by explosions.

it depends on what you mean by earthworks
i think most cannon fire will do nothing to trenchs while howitzers only kill the men inside
but earthworks like making redoubts above ground level should be able to get knocked over, only makes sense
but mabye not the stakes, as early on there wont be much else defense against calvary early on(except pikes)

Yeah I meant more like the rebouts, I used them often in the Napoleonic Total War 2 mod for RTW, and they were useful for shooting over your own lines, and as well as being able to see more of the battlefield.
The rebouts hopefully will be damaged by explosions, I can easily see a 24lbs howitzer shell taking out a good chunk of a rebout, therefore either damaging a battery or render the rebout nearly useless.

Actually trenching won't be very powerful, artilery fire will kill any inside, but Earthworks are very important, constructing fences to slow down the enmy while harrasing them with gunfire and cavalry charges.
