thanks!

Right now we are taking evrything from 3d and 2d artists to coders and scriptors, from chartographers and writers to historians and conceptual artists.

Because i've been out of it so long, i am forgetting about anyone who showed interest before. If you want to participate now, please start fresh here!

Good stuff. This is exactly the sort of thing the forum will help for. I can't help ye directly on the modding but if there's anything I can do otherwise, let me know please.

Private - good to have you aboard! My first question for you is actually about work you have done already - whether the Agema Hoplite you made in another thread might not be available for reskinning and use as a mycenaean heavy infantry (we may also need to replace the head but let me worry about that).

Ischenous - Excellent! We hope to make good use of traits i think. More details on this later on though .

Gaius - Your help so far has been greatly appreciated, and you seem to have a way of deciding for yourself - quite correctly - what we need help with and what we don't. If you so much as continue on your merry course, we shall all be greatly for the better, regardless of what we may think we wanted you to do .

Really the skin is just a placeholder because im not a very good skinning, i expected Andalus (who i made it for) to reskinn it anyways, so i mostly focused on alpha channels for the cloak, of course the head can be changed, i was going off that image in the thread so the helmet made sense in that case.

I really do not have the time to help on the mod itself, but my previous offer to upload samples of the work that has been done still stands. Although it seems that may no longer be necessary as you have put some examples of units up lately.

I seem to have unexpectedly attached myself to this, so I might as well:

Name: Andalus
Desired Realm: None - I'm just here as, I don't know, 'official hanger-on' or something An ideas person, you might say. I'll help where I can with advice and discussion.
Experience - Umm... I have good ideas sometimes. I also have skinning experience, and can do minor coding, though that is just by the by.

I guess I'm Hanger-On #2 then. I don't think I have the time to fully contribute, but I will surely have a lot of input.

This is great...I've been pushing this mod forever.

excellent, glad to have you all aboard!

ProvostGuard - any chance you can link to stuff you've done? gives me a better sense of where you fit in .

You can see some stuff here. One reason I quit modding for Age 3 was the low texture quality. Highly detailed textures looked terrible in-game...

I can also do some limited painting (example). I'm not very good, but if you're interested...

excellent, I have no doubt you'll be a fine addition to the team and i can see that you're got a pretty strong sense of things .

I am trying to think of how it's best to do this...naturally I would give someone with your level of competence free reign at the start, but you say you've never worked for Rome before so i'm curious.

I think to start, could you possibly try making a trojan/anatolian spearman similar to this fellow and his buddy on the left here?

I will understand if you are not a modeler of course. The weapons are not really important, it's the body that I'm interested in. My suggestion in the case that you are not a sculptor is to use whatever is closest to the body and head, which is probably something from barbarian invsasion like this saxon leader?. If you don't have BI I suppose you can just use your judgement - something with not pants or long sleeves :P. Again, What i'm interested in is how you handle the chest, leg, and helmet textures.

The rest is up to you, but if you feel as though you don't need any practice, you could make the world a beautiful place by using his faction colors. That is, red with gold trim for Trojans (like barbarian invasion WRE), silver/white with black trim for the Lycians (not unlike RTW carthage, although less blue), or black with orange trim for the greeks (identical to RTW macedonians). These colors can be (should be) lifted as directly as possible from the images you already have on-file, as those are proven value/saturation levels in-game .

BTW i don't expect you to know where everything is and how to save/use the files straight out of the paddock. There's no deadline/rush on this .

I haven't been able to properly extract the textures (seems like a Vista issue) so could anybody send relevant ones to me? Thanks.
posted 13 October 2008 02:34 EDT (US)     14 / 21
If you have Vista there's a chance the unpacked textures are in your Virtual Store. This article will tell you more.

If you need it, I research history (and historial theories) for English Heritage. If you needed any info or research done i have the resources. I can write for you too. Not much I know but the offer is there. Laters

I have no need for you fine noblemen. I have merely to stamp my feet and legions will spring up all over Italy. I can crush you like an insect..

I don't know if you need it but I can try making the map_regions, map_climates and other such maps for you. I wouldn't know how I could get them to work though, still struggeling with that in my own mod as well

British AAR/HSR On hold, last update was on 11/06/08 or 06/11/08 for you Americans.

Provost - missed your post, but it seems hussar got you sorted out. let me know if there are any other issues .

Hussar - thanks again .

Trodon - do you have a particular faction you'd like to research? right now information on late philistines would be ideal, but honestly anything about the times is going to be useful at some point. Good to have you aboard.

Pizzadude - good to hear it! The map is a long way off at the moment, but that sort of thing would be great. If CaesarVincens is still looking to help with the map, you and he may be able to pool your skills.

Hey!
I'm not good at modding or anything like that but i have some good ideas (and questions)...

1)Custodians????Is that like high preists??
2) There was 1 tribe of the hebrews that was called Judah. They were supposed to be excellent warriors---maybe model them on the greeks spartans?
3) The Levites were the musicians of the Hebrews...A structure called the Levite hall or something could be an entertainment building.
4)A horse-based period (or the whole thing) would be good for the Hebrews because it was written that Solomon had 40 000 stable (dunno how many horses per stable).

Ps: First Post!

Welcome to TWH, GeneralAwesome. Enjoy your stay.

Since SrJames is absent, I'll answer your questions.

1) Custodians are a Hebrew temple guard. There are several different names used in the Bible. Custodians seemed to be the best one. They might be viewed as ahistorical, but as SrJames said, they would only otherwise be called 'Better Spearmen' or something equally naff.

2) Judah may or may not have been better fighters, but the overall quality of Israelite soldiery was not great, so that is I believe how they are being done. The idea is to have a few elite troops, and morale boosting units (Hornblowers and Ark of the Covenant).

3) Not up to me.

4) Nor this. Though there is little mention of horses being used in warfare by the Hebrews. Also, this mod reflects the Judges period, not the Kings.

Alright, thanks for answering.
Oh and why i said what i did about judah, is (this is in kings tho) because it said that david (or solomon cant rmbr) took 200 000 foot soldiers and 10 000 men of judah.
